New Surface Pro 3 officially announced by Microsoft. Designed to destroy laptops.[Update2: Surface Mini killed by Elop]

Rafy

Measures just 9.1mm (0.36 inch) thick

Familiar kickstand, it looks like. 9.1mm thin, with a stylus. USB 3.0.

the Surface Pro 3 is relatively (compared to laptops) lightweight, at 800g (1.76 pounds).

12 inch 1440p screen "Pixel Free"

3x2 aspect ratio

highest contrast ratios in the industry.

It's the thinnest Intel Core product ever made

Core i7 processor fan-less

Magnesium frame

More than 20 percent battery life than previous Surface products

Drop test on stage and it did not break.

It lets you display out to a 4K monitor as well through the docking station.

Two step kickstand, bends up to 150 degrees. (lap-ability)

"No compromises, everything in one package"

lb2-2542.jpg

lb2-2563.jpg

New Typecover:

lb2-2632.jpg

Even thinner.

New trackpad that's 68 percent larger, has 78 percent less friction, etc.

With the Surface Pro 2, there's some looseness in the hinge that makes using it in your lap less than ideal. With the Surface Pro 3, you can click in the cover to stabilize the screen.

It's magnetically sealed to the screen

New Pen:

lb2-2654.jpg

The pen -- "it's not a stylus" -- is meant to be the weight of a normal pen you'd use with paper.

When you hold it and a pen in your hand, it has to feel light.

Palm rejection lets you rest your hand on the screen without any accidental input, and the pen tip works as it would if it was a non-digital one.

Click the pen, and even if your device is off, it will turn on and you can write immediately.

You can write your notes, and as soon as you click your pen they are uploaded to the cloud.

You can use your camera with the pen to capture images by clicking it and then write on it using OneNote.

Update2: Mini was killed by Elop

Bloomberg’s sources say Elop was worried that the smaller Surface didn’t do enough to differentiate itself from smaller tablets such as the iPad mini and the Nexus 7 and would thus be a flop comparable to the first-generation Surface RT. Speaking of the Surface RT, Bloomberg also notes that shipping a device that runs on Windows RT is basically a nonstarter at this point since all major OEMs have abandoned it and it doesn’t have anywhere near the number of apps that Windows 8 has

Onto carpet. Nothing breaks on carpet especially when it's thick carpet and not old and thin.

I could drop my phone from the top of a 5 story building and it wouldn't break but my phone isn't smart so it's already broke.

1.8M is probably more than the height a user would drop it off a desk or while standing. How do you expect users to use the product.

I think the 1.8M drop test is a reasonable test.

The ratio on a sheet of paper is sqrt(2)...I guess 1.5(3:2) is pretty close to that.

(He said the ratio of the screen was very familiar to a sheet of paper)
