Hey PSA here from me with my combo. If I set the checkpoints to 30m or change the affinity to higher in the app on windows 11 the gpu calculations really take a hit with TPF.  If I leave it set for 3 min intervals it seems to give the gpu better performance. Strange behaviour. I couldn't really find much online with this but these are my findings.

Do you have overclocks or such?

Shorter checkpoint intervals should always reduce points, if it improves I'd expect you're actually having calculation failures causing resumes from last checkpoint. In this case if checkpoints are more frequent there is less work lost when that happens.

It was running all stock doing this I thought it was instability too so I backed everything off.  Back up to ~8mppd now instead of 2. Not sure what is going on.

Curious to see how long it lasts. Occasionally my 5800H boots to like 85W for 90sec and brings 4090's to their knees in PPW and then drops back down

I'm doing my best to keep things cool. My case front is wide open with the mesh exposed and 2x140mm and a rear 120mm top has the 360mm rad exhausting.  I turned up the graphics card fans a bit for this venture too.

Currently anxiety watching my 480 completing WU to make sure it doesn't crash and start over.

But we don't know that... 

 

If the xtx only competes with the 4080 12gb(whatever it becomes) then it isn't cheap, without comparative benchmarks there's no real way to know if it truly is a cheaper competitor or if it is simply cheaper cause its crap

HWUB claims 999 and 899 but we will need the reviews. I don't trust any of these companies.

What I'm trying to say is, if hypothetically the performance only matched a 4070 card, then it really isn't very cheap as the 4070 would certainly be cheaper... you can't judge price in a vacuum of data imo

I didn't say better value either. Hypothetically it could be like 4090 TI territory in a year if they sort drivers out like they always do too lol. I expect chiplet pains in some games. It wasn't smooth with the cpu's either.

Assuming there are no underlying architecture, bandwidth, or bottleneck optimizations (as in, assuming folding output is just identical to the 6000 series per FLOP), that should be an increase from ~3.5m PPD to ~9-10m PPD. In reality it should be a bit higher, I would think. Maybe 11-12m PPD? Total shot in the dark.

I'm assuming it won't be the folding monster that the 4090 is, but that's still a pretty incredible generation-over-generation improvement, considering it's not pulling dramatically more power (300W vs 355W). They're also substantially cheaper than the 4000 series cards, which is great. I haven't gone with an AMD card since the R9 Fury days, but this has me very interested.

Well Point Validation Complete now time for me to go and Cry in the corner that I won't have my 7900XTX before the end of the event...also waiting for the 7900x3d too to replace my 3900x...

Just had a quick look-see at my stat sheets. In 2 days we've already accumulated 10% of last year's event total, or ~2x the daily point production with 30% fewer WUs completed.

 

Value on rdna3 do be stonkin tho
