LMG Sponsor Complaints

At least it's a convenient all in one package that gets straight to your door.

Anyway the guy washed an electronic device with water and it and died.

A lot of phones are marketed as water resistant -Would you put your phone in water just because of those claims?

Not to mention that a lot of people have damaged these water resistant phones with water damage.

From their own website:

"The Manscaped™ Lawn Mower® 4.0 has an IPX7 waterproof rating, meaning that it is totally safe for use in the shower."

So yeah, I would assume the average person would think it's okay to use the in shower.

In the EU you get 2 years warranty on Manscape electronics (minimum allowed by law). In the US: 90 days. Clearly willing to stand behind their high quality products...

I can't even fathom the idea of a trimmer only lasting 90 days, especially the fact that it has such a good waterproof rating but clearly doesn't in practice. I bought a random Philips trimmer from amazon for like $25 a few years ago and it still works fine. Of course I need to pop off the cap and clean it every 5-10 uses, but I think you'd want to do that anyways.

About Manscaped, not thrilled with the quality either. Their Ear/Nose trimmer just barely works at all. I have a cheap one that uses regular batteries (which is why I wanted a replacement) and that one is loads better. But the main complaint I have about Manscaped is the way they handle the subscription. You cannot opt out of it while purchasing the original package, it's not obvious how to get out of it after the purchase and they really try very hard to make you not cancel it once you found it. How did Luke call it? Dark patterns or something like that? It's not the worst there is, but it's not really nice either.

Honestly guys, I think LTT can do better and shouldn't partner with Manscaped anymore. All in all I was not very happy about the products and the whole experience...

Vessi finally replied that the code is now LTT instead of LINUSTECHTIPS and gave no offer or hint that they will refund the difference. On January 3 the code given in the video was LINUSTECHTIPS

edit: After specifically asking they refunded most of the $25 discount.

Hey,

Unfortunately we haven't heard anything back yet so I don't have an update to provide. We are trying to contact multiple people but have gotten zero responses.

Thanks,

I assume no new update to the situation?

Samsung Display is trying to ban the import of all aftermarket displays in the USA by imposing a General Exclusion order.

What's extra awful about this is it wouldn't just ban aftermarket displays for Samsung phones, but also for iPhones, and many other phones as well.  In other words:

If successful, this action from Samsung Display would COMPLETELY DESTROY the ENTIRE 3rd-party phone repair industry.  Not just Samsung phones, but iPhones and others.

Shops out of business, vendors out of business, and consumers left high and dry.  It's hard to put into words how truly evil this is.

No surprise there. Samsung is as shady as hell back in 2000, and still is shady as hell right now, the reason I object every thing they made.

Go to LG instead.

No updates on manscape? So many complaints from the community.

Obviously money speaks and LTT won’t dump them

Most of what I see about manscape is that it's a mediocre product at best. But, although I don't mean to speak for LMG, I've always kinda thought of this thread as more a place for things like promo codes not working, perhaps bringing up scandals, truly shady practices (the recent Anker debacle is a good example) etc...

I wouldn't expect sponsors to be dropped and blacklisted because their products may be generally "meh". That's the majority of stuff out there.

I agree with your sentiment, although it sounds as though Manscaped has a subscription that's hard to cancel. I would classify that as shady, although I have no experience personally.

Yeah, fair enough. Depending on the degree of "dark patterns", obfuscation,  etc, I could see an argument for that.

Piling on the hate about Samsung being anti right to repair, I want to discuss IFIXIT.

They've traditionally been a commercial bastion of promoting repairability, but as the official distribution partner for many of these big companies, including Samsung, for "assemblies" which almost completely negate the cost savings of self-repair (i.e. screen + battery assembly), especially after the NY law was neutered, and Samsung's offensive on aftermarket displays, I want to see IFIXIT release a statement condemning these practices.

If IFIXIT is not willing to, at least, call out their partners for the way they're subverting repairability, then I feel IFIXIT has "sold out" and no longer an actual advocate in this space.

Personally, I would no longer want to see them as a sponsor, and won't be buying any more of their kits / parts.

Hi, I don't like todays video sponsor segment with iFixit. They claim that passing a bill in New York is a great success. It is not. The bill got modified so bad it's "functionally useless". You shown an article in the background. If you have read it you'd know what's wrong. I feel like this sponsor segment spreads misinformation. Here's a Louis's interview for some media about it:

It seems like iFixit is just as blindsided by the whole thing as everyone else.  As a somewhat large company with contracts with many parts providers, they do have to tread much more carefully than someone with 0 business relations, so I expect they are taking the time to fully plan out their next moves.  Keep in mind that any misstep could result in a lawsuit here, and even if they win, the lawyer costs alone could seriously hurt them.  Obviously we as a community should keep a close eye on things, but I don't see any reason to declare them as completely compromised just because they haven't released a statement as soon as the news broke.

About the Thorum sponsorship, "real dinosaur bone" is not a thing.

Fossils are fossils, not bones.

The bone is long gone and replaced by minerals.

Also, how the hell do they source materials such as meteorite and T-rex fossils?

I couldn't find anything about it on the site.

i second that, if you just see that you might think "we" won... haha well it should be obvious by now, the customers always lose...

A majority of news outlets portrayed this as a loss for right to repair and how scandalous this is. But not iFixit. They tweeted that this is a huge win. I think you can still find this. They still didn't correct their mistake. Or is it a mistake? I don't think they are trustworthy anymore.

That's completely fair, and I'm not calling for IFIXIT to be crucified, yet.

but IFIXIT has a partnership which stands to benefit them from companies like samsung restricting the rest of the repair market.

If IFIXIT does not take any action, then their continued partnership and silence will be interpreted as approval of these practices.

I'm hoping that between their own morals, and maybe some community pressure, IFIXIT does decide to do the right thing, and do it somewhat promptly.

in adition to this there is also sustainability questions over companies essentially chopping up archealogical findings to put in rings and the like within the archeology community, i do not know much about this personally but it may be worth looking into.

In todays video (the pay-to-win gaming pc - Jan 16, 2023) Anthony mentions that the sponsor's (Seasonic's) psus in the PX line come with 12VHPWR connectors. Looking at seasonic's website, they advertise ATX 12 V but none of their photos display the cable nor the port to connect it. While this may seem like a non-issue, I can't be confident if the psu is a new one with ATX 12 V or an older one that doesn't have the connection.

My complaint is that they do not fully differentiate the revisions when they clearly have different features.

Would it be nice if they had a filter for 12VHWPR? Sure, but, it is accurately called out in the Technical Specifications, which, as a consumer, should be checking as well.
