Twitter is testing on a new TikTok-like format for its ‘Explore’ discovery tab for select users globally, including India.

The new UI is being tested on select users who use the latest version of Android or iOS. In this test, users will be able to swipe up and see videos, images and even text-based tweets in a vertical format, just like you now see in TikTok or Instagram Reels.

Also, Twitter is testing a one-time warning feature that will let users flag their posts with labels like Nudity, Violence, or Sensitive. 

Previously users can only mark based on a single label - sensitive.

My thoughts

Wow didnt see that coming! Now even twitter is moving towards 'Short Form Video Content' which is popular with the Gen Z.

Not sure if its the right move given how their equivalent of 'status' - Twitter fleets failed badly.

The other feature being tested , the one-time warning feature is a step in the right direction.

thats actually smart, i wish all platforms do that ngl.

 

but the fact all platforms are changing to short term videos just shows that in this age no one can pay attention to something for a while.

twitter has done some stupid things, this is only gonna end up like fleets and that donate thing they tried a couple months back.

every time they add new features like these it always fails, mainly because their userbase doesn't want these things but do want things that improve the existing experience such as:

this is what the userbase wants, improvement of the existing experience. the nudity one will be especially helpful to pornographic artists and porn stars since it gives them some kind of protection from the under 18's that infest the site. (doesn't stop kids from making another account that has it's age set to 80 but that's another problem with no real good solution)

Short videos are not new to Twitter, but maybe not so much a dominant feature yet, which is what they're trying to address with this update.

 

I've been experimenting with short videos on Twitter for some time, just after I found out about Youtube Shorts towards the start of this year. I looked at Tiktok as another possible place to go but that site just gave me a headache. Twitter likes 720p up to around 2 minutes, compared to YT Shorts 60 seconds portrait 1080p. So not exactly the same thing and I'm getting better at creating videos that can work both in portrait and landscape, and editing for both.

I think this fits twitter more than it fits YouTube personally, as Twitter is already aimed at short posts, might still fail tho, as Tiktok still exists.

I don't use twitter,  nor Tiktok, so don't affect me.

 

I wish YouTube just removed shorts as it goes against what YouTube is supposed to be, aka longer content.

YouTube doubled down and announced a $100 million fund for shorts creaters. On the surface it appears to be doing well but most of the content are repost of tiktok videos or snippets from other existing videos which is sad...

Twitter video quality is genuinely the worst of any other website I can think of. So focusing on video seems like a terrible idea to me..
Videos are useful to have on twitter and I'm glad it has the feature, but video is not at all the main focus for me on twitter. I'm really not into short format videos unless its news related or something.

maybe its because im getting older but I just dont like TikTok for a multitude of reasons. I wish companies would just develop something better for the future of social media...
