whats your favorite keyboard shortcut?

It's V for paste because it's right next to C, so you can quickly do Ctrl-C then Ctrl-V. It's also helpful that those are easy to reach with just the left hand, so you can use your mouse to choose where/what you are copying and pasting. If you have to copy and paste a lot in documents and use the QWERTY layout, this becomes obvious and you soon realize that it was a brilliant UX decision. Having Cut be X is for similar reasons.

Oh I see that makes sense, I just don't use my kb much, usually only to type something,  making a folder etc, but I agree those shortcuts are more practical if one is used to them.

Same for the clipboard thing, handy for sure, but just an additional thing to get distracted/confused for me when I press it on accident 🤔

I use F8 (screenshot) F5 (stream) and F10 (record last 15 minutes) in GFE a lot (which of course also has the issue that sometimes other apps use those keys as well)

Personally I'd prefer a touch screen keyboard (10 inches?) instead of a mechanical one, could customize the keys, that would be ideal

= )

I sometimes need to use HxD to edit game .exe files for ultrawide support. I can copy and paste in there just fine.

doesn't work for what I use it (modding mods) copy paste alters the values they actually turn red too, ie mod doesn't work anymore (i have no idea why lol...)

You have to highlight the part you want to replace when pasting. I forgot that all the time when starting out in HxD and i bricked a lot of games before noticing my stupid mistake 😄 If you search for a specific string it's highlighted automatically. But so far i didn't need to add anything using Hxd, only replace stuff. So ymmv.

Nevermind, it does turn red anyway, which is helpful so I don't miss anything (every entry of a certain category needs to be changed) but if i copy paste this happens:

hxd_____127kk8.png.e0a0dbb7f91f45c6b49b5bbd43db7544.png

And that means the program/ game can't read the mod anymore,  either not at all or textures missing o.o

Om macOS, it's Command + Shift + (control, if you want to copy to clipboard +) 3 (for whole desktop)/ 4 (for a selected portion). And if you choose the shortcut for the selection of a portion of the screen, and you hover over a window and press the space bar and then click it, it'll ss the window alone.

I just switched to MacOS can you give me some tips? On windows Snip and Sketch, I can Win + Shift + S to screenshot whatever I want, draw something on Snip and Sketch, copy again using the button at the top right corner and then paste wherever I want. Are there are similar tools/workflow on MacOS?

If it's changing the file size you're adding or removing something. That can and likely will load to a bricked file. But if you're just replacing one string with another, then it shouldn't affect file size at all.

To be clear i don't really know what i'm doing either while in HxD. I really just use it to improve ultrawide compatibility for some games. And mostly only with a guid open on the other monitor.

There are always going to be certain applications that are exceptions. Reddit has also had a bug for a while that if you paste anything into a reply, it will break the text box. But that's not an issue with the shortcut itself, but rather a poor implementation by the developer. You can code in a shortcut for an application just as easily as you can code in a right-click menu.

Yep.  Just like the textbox formatting error that led to "newfags can't triforce".

Windows + Shift + S

Brings up the "new" snipping tool, extremely useful for screencapping just a portion of your screen. Amazing for posting bits of your screen into discord or whatever.

Windows + period (.)

Brings up the emoji menu. Now you can pretend to phonepost from the comfort of your PC.

As a power excel user, I'm going to say:

Shift+F11: New worksheet

Ctrl+Shift+L: Apply Filter

Alt+Down Arrow: Open filter menu

Alt+A+C: Clear applied filters

Oh look!  A PS2 peripheral!  You can totally plug that into the BRAND FREAKING NEW computers we have at work.  IDK why they have VGA, DVI and PS2 ports, but yeah, they do.

Alt + shift. It switches language on your keyboard. Anyone who's native isn't English uses several language keyboard layouts.

Heh! alt-shift, that took a while to figure out why my keyboard layout is ENG after playing games.

win + L -- lock

I don't turn my rig off, don't hibernate, don't log off, don't sleep -- lock basically just well locks the pc behind a password, with all background processes running. Even though it's just me and my cat, I still like to lock my pc when I step away or go to sleep.
