Honestly (UK here) prime day has always been massively disappointing. They might as well call it the Amazon Alexa sale.

 

90% of the product prices are preinflated so they can make it look like a massive saving. In reality they cost the same as the rest of the year.

I would have to agree. Especially when iirc last black friday we actually had slightly better deals on some of the deals currently on offer.

 

If anything, I use Amazon mainly for the convenience now and good customer support if anything goes awry, I've started using ebay a bit more to get things that are like 20% of the price Amazon lists them as but I dislike doing that as I encounter too many issues to be worth the savings sometimes tbh. 

 

There appear to be a lot of just regular non amazon products that are also on sale but I've found that you might as well look elsewhere because probaly 8 out of 10 times you'll find that item cheaper without the wait for delivery or find an alternative that does the job just as well. 

 

Actually, for a while I've worked and kept most of my wages since I was young but I'm getting to the point where I'm now trying to actively save far more than I was used to, The Camelizer is a decent extension or Camelcamelcamel for checking the price history of amazon listings if you really want to know how good the deal is.

Prime Day "deals" are exactly like blowout sales at department store chains. Inflate the prices beforehand, cut them back, and you save trivially little money or none at all, while it looks like you've saved a lot.

 

Amazon is selling the WD Blue SN550 1TB for $84.99. They claim the old price was $134.99, saving you 38 percent. That's true, because they jacked it up a little while beforehand. Now that's all fine and good, except for the fact that the drive had been selling for $104.99 for several months before that. So what you *really* saved was 19 percent.

 

It's just a mass amount of sort of lame sales. Wouldn't buy anything on Prime Day for the sale unless I was going to buy it anyways.

The fire 10 sale was actually really good, that one sits at 150$ usually, it was 80$ for prime day

and the b550f gaming was about 50$ off it’s normal price

While I get your point, by your example I still saved $20, so IF I needed the item and was going to buy it anyways, can't argue with saving money, even if less than they make it out to seem

100%, if something breaks and you need a replacement now, then it doesn't really matter, but if you're looking for an upgrade, being careful always pay. A few years ago I got a 250GB SanDisk SSD for my wife's laptop, it was close to Black Friday so I waited to see what the deals would be and 2 weeks before, the BestBuy flyer appeared online, turns out, there was an SSD on sale advertised as a "door crasher" ... but then, when I checked BB site, it was on sale for $5 cheaper !!! So I bought it that week instead of waiting.

 

TLDR ; The amazing "door casher" deal BestBuy advertised for Black Friday was actually $5 MORE than the lowest price they had it on sale. I've since always kept an eye on prices of stuff I needed / wanted but not immediately.

My spirit keeps trying to make me purchase the 980 Pro 2TB for $313 though. But I just bought a 1 TB 970 Evo Plus, so I really don't need it. 😭

One of my Prime Day deals was an i7 - 10700KF for $239.00. So I snagged it up for a buddy who is currently building a system and doesn't want AMD. He was pretty stocked at the price, I guess they normally go for like $290+ so.
