There's a market for them. With the M1 chips their thermals are actually top of the range and the value is actually rather fair. For the majority of consumers, reparability is not an important factor; the average person will not be comfortable opening up their machine, regardless of whether it is a PC or Mac. Not everyone wants to play games on their computers, people sometimes use computers for this thing called "work".

 

Not everyone wants to use their computer in the same way as you do. That's why there are markets for different types of computers.

look i am just asking from a price to performance ratio why a gaming can do work too and most can be hackintoshes if you need mac software

macs have a place in the datacenter world. for people who don't want to use Linux, macs are a close second.

also, macs are really not that overpriced as you make them out to be.

For you, as (presumably) a PC enthusiast, it might seem odd - but price-to-performance is not the be-all and end-all of computing for most users.

You have some very outdated things to hate on.

 

The new M1 Macs are actually a good deal for the performance and battery life they offer.

Some people like MacOS better than Windows as it offeres some SW that Windows lacks.

Repairability is meh... true. But many ultrabooks are as well.

If you're buying Mac, you likely couldn't care less about games though.

They're reliable. A lot of people prefer macOS. Laptops are usually on the better end of battery life. We do office work not gaming or 3D stuff, so standard base model Macs pack plenty of power, and as we aren't pushing them to the max basically ever (the only time these machines are maxed out are when I do that on purpose because it's a model I haven't handled before and I wanna see how the boost vs thermals behave) the thermals are a non-issue.

Lets just remember that reparability and right to repair are not the same thing. I am all for right to repair. That said, if I were to ask my family members and my friends right now if they wanted to open up their computers themselves and fix it, I can guarantee that most, if not all of them would not feel comfortable doing that. We're talking about the average consumer here, not those who are clued in on reparability and know the ins and outs of a computer - these are different demographics. And let's also remember that difficult repairs are not just exclusive to Apple, but literally every company who makes thin and lights; I would never risk opening up my ASUS ZenBook, and even if I did, the only thing I could mess with would be the M.2 slot, as everything else is soldered.

All of my work in audio/music production macs almost never fail.

Free video editor and garage band.
