So just was wondering (and not sure if a thread exists already) if you overclock hardware.

Any body here gaining performance or what?聽

I feel most people are going to fall into this category, myself included.

Dialed in on my CPU (undervolt/mild overclock), memory speed on GPU, and XMP for memory.

For both CPU and GPU I will get the highest stable OC I can get with minimal or no voltage increase, and then leave it there.聽

Back when I had my R9 290x I got lucky, I managed a 1080mhz core overclock (1000 stock) and a 1400mhz memory overclock with zero voltage increase and only a 15% boost to power limit.聽 It stayed stable without thermal throttling for about 6 years until I retired it for my 5700.聽 It now lounges at stock clock speeds in my HTPC in the living room.

My HTPC is actually running stock max P-state, Boost disabled. Gotta say a 2700X can get hot. But the poor thing is cooped up in a cabinet. This was the only way I could get away with an HTPC. My wife insisted that she didn't want to see it. LOL> She thought she had me on that one. No hun, I got this all figured out, don't you worry. :D

I only overclock my CPU and RAM typically.

I prefer my desktops to be聽dead silent so I buy GPU's with big boi coolers and then leave them at factory settings. Back when I was on 1080p I would lower the power draw of my聽cards to around 70% for less heat and noise.

Right now I just have my Ram Running at its XMP speed with the timings tighter than the spec as 2nd gen Ryzen doesn't like to overclock much. Sometimes I will try to push my cpu and gpu just to get a juicy 3dmark score but outside that I don't much as some games don't always like when I push my gpu while others run much better with it

I used to OC back in the day but I haven't had much time lately to really get into things other than a couple of hundred mhz here and there. One of my early crowning achievements was getting an AMD K6-2 CPU from 400 to 437 mhz stable under air (there was no practical pc聽watercooling in '98).

The difference back then was night and day. Also got the ram from 133 mhz to 167 mhz if I remember correctly. These days I do some mild OC on systems I build for other people. I prefer my own systems to be stable and long lasting without needing exotic cooling. That being said, I am willing to get back into it with Zen 3 and a complete overkill cooling setup inside a custom desk.

聽Imho overclock is for when you want to get another year out of your system that鈥檚 kind of on the edge without it, or because YEAH!

Not a pro, not even very good. 聽I鈥檓 just old and have time currently. 聽Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.
