LTT Official Folding Month 2020!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Luckily when I said it was almost done, I really meant it.

For the last time in 2020, ladles and gentlespoons, here a blog post.

And with that said, it's a wrap! Thank you for everyone getting involved, if you'd like to continue talking about folding why not head over to The Folding Community Board

Each WU has a deadline that it has to be finished by normally it is about 3 days, that's how long you have to complete it and return the results.

What is the LinusTechTips team number, I cant find it. Oh and is it possible to only fold on my gpu?? My cpu temps are getting to high ad will be getting a new cooler soon, but how can I just fold on my gpu??

New to this too, just took my R7 1700 off the list because it wasnt worth the power consumption - on client click configure in upper left, SLOTS tab and remove the CPU

BTW the client said I was going to average 480-500k points per day (both CPU and GPU), not sure what this means tbh, but after taking CPU off, the GPU is around 750k points per day at least on this current WU - again this is all new to me

My question:

Will using a mobo that has x4 on one of the PCIe (full size GPU slot) slots destroy a GPU's ability to fold?

the linus team number is 223518.

you can just delete the CPU slot, and it will only fold on your GPU.

LTT team #223518. You can turn off CPU folding from the Client advance control. Click on Configure, then Slots. You can add and remove folding slots.

Found my answer

But, I havent messed in a dual GPU environment in a while, this system would have 2x R9 Fury 1 @ PCie x8 and 1 @ PCie x4 - is there a way within the Radeon software to designate GPU1 to go into compute mode while leaving GPU0 in gaming mode?

I just signed up.  Not a super fast machine but I keep chugging along.

I started folding long ago because my wife passed away and I wanted to fight what took her life.

I see that you are folding for Team AnandTech which is good too, but folding for LTT is a tiny bit better ;) .

But seriously, if you want to be a part of Folding Month and be on daily leaderboard once event starts (AND BE ELIGABLE to win prices), you will have to change teams and sign up for the folding month (you can find the link in first post).

Just started my folding machine up again for the first time in a month or two to get it ready for this.
The last time I was folding was earlier in this pandemic when there were huge issues getting work units for GPU.

This seems like it is still an issue as only one of my GPU's has picked up a work unit.

Are there any good ways around this, particularly those that are automated. The method I use at the moment is just occasionally checking to see if it is waiting then pausing and restarting the GPU.

there is a fan-made python script that automatically pauses and unpauses the slots, which forces them to ask for new WU's more often.

I have already signed up and I switched teams.  The work units should start showing up in a few hours.

No the problem is I've been working to fast. When someone new signs up and starts to fold F@H does not update user names and stats rightway so when I check for the folding name I get no results. What I have now started to do is everytime I go validate signups I recheck the last couple that had no results the 1st time I checked just to make sure and I've had a few that have come back with results on the 2nd check. A bit more work for me but less no name found errors.

I just saw it was posted on Aug 31st and didn't bother reading more. Assuming nobody loses my stuff in shipping, I'll be back to folding (probably) then. Though my hydro costs are about to be fully mine now, so that's a factor :(

Toronto Hydro's fixed rates are in effect until Oct 31, so it should help dampen the blow depending on where you are moving to (for this event at least).
