Cat8 uses the 2000MHz band (or 2GHz band) to transmit data over a shielded connection. Cat8.1 can transmit 25Gb/s and Cat8.2 can transmit 40Gb/s. Your ISP will have to provide 40GB/s, of course.

The latest network cable category standard with higher bandwidth capabilities to previous standards. Do you need it? I can safely say no not at all.

U know how the internet is just a bunch of tubes? It's a tube that can fit 8 cats

On a more serious note: just an ethernet cable with better rated bandwidth and probably distance as well

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

With 8 cats, it's got to be pretty crowded in there and difficult to feed.

Hmm, close enough.

Cat 8 is split into two with 2000mhz

Cat 8.1 which goes up to 25GB

Cat 8.2 which goes up to 40GB

Is there a NIC that supports 40gbs via RJ45? I thought it's only supported via QSFP+ for both fiber or twinax cabling.

Forward thinking, although considering how toasty 10Gbit switches get, I don't want to think what 40Gbit would be like.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

Blow-e-matrons, and that's why they bolt the server racks to the floor isn't it?

Future LTT video "how we watercooled a 40Gbit switch".  (still having nightmares about the last time they tried it)

I am sure they said that once upon a time about 1Gbps speeds.

I don't recall them ever saying that, though I'm not that well versed on the history of computer nerdology. Most people aren't even getting true 1 gb speeds anyway unless they are paying for it so.

Is/did Cat8 get a TIA cert or is it only ISO certified?

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Yes, as far as I can find "Category 8 was ratified by the TR43 working group under ANSI/TIA 568-C.2-1"
