The bicycle thread

YellowJersey

I have a Cannondale hybrid bike that I use to bike to school and ride the paths around here. I like it because it has a disc brakes which is a step up from my old bike.

I also own a Trek mountain bike that I mainly use at Lake Tahoe. I haven't been able to do much mountain biking this summer because of the bad air :( I went out a lot in June and July, but basically not at all since then. Hopefully next year will be better.

The smoke hasn't been that bad in my neck of the woods. I missed out on going for a ride a few times. Two or three summers ago was really bad, though.

Welp, I think the season's officially over for me. We've had snow the past few days, so I think it's time to hang up my bicycle gloves until next summer. @RorzNZ Looks like it'll be on you to keep the thread going since it's spring down there. Any other Kiwis or Aussies out there?

Here's a picture of my bike: a 2010/2011 Giant TCX-1. My bike's name is "Zephyr."

Very cool bike! I’m away from mine at the moment, and having to have a little bit of physio for my legs, back in a week or two though!

Maybe time for a snow bike?

I bicycle each and every day, rain, snow, shine. Currently I am charging up my 52V 15Ah battery and plan to ride today to get a feel for what needs to be done to my bike since the accident. Its a diy kit ebike, Leaf 1500W motor from Leaf, controller from ebay, battery from good supplier same with charger as its a Cycle Satiator which was expensive but on sale. Battery was on sale to. I can ride 80km without pedaling at all. I am currently on the hunt for a new bicycle to swap all my ebike stuff over to. In all, I spent $300 on the kit without the battery or charger, battery cost $400, charger cost $250, bicycle was free since I already had it.

Thinking of doing a cycle tour this summer! There's a ride from Vancouver to Calgary that takes about two weeks that I have my eye on. A friend of mine is doing it, so it'd be great to do it with her. That said, whether I do it entirely depends on whether I can get the C-word shot before the trip starts. It'll also be tough to pull off financially as my income is always precarious.

I have a 27" Raliegh touring bike that I haven't been on since 1988.

I have broken both pedals 3 times (shearing them off like nothing), as I was very strong in my legs many years ago.

But, now, you can't even ride on the streets, the cars will just run you over. No respect at all.

You sheared the pedals off? HOW?!

I hear you about cars. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bad cyclists that give the rest of us a bad name. My theory is that cyclists in particular are singled out because most people during their day to day lives are motorists and pedestrians, so it's easy to point to the group you're not a part of as being particularly bad. I think motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians, in general, are all pretty bad.

Glad to see some fellow cyclists here! I have a BMC SLC01 road bike and a Trek 5200 road bike as well.

Mostly using them indoors on Zwift in the mornings before work. Due to time constraints don't really get out for long rides recently.

Hoping to get out for longer rides this summer, training for bike event in September for 145 km.. need to get WAY fitter by then 😅

Easiest way to improve leg strength, is to go see a foot doctor, and make sure you are walking correctly.

My PT had arch supports made for me that doubled the size of the leg muscles in 1 week. Did change anything, didn't work out at all.

Probably the best thing is to train legs twice a week, instead of one. Leg strength went up heaps since then.

And if you are not on a bike? Walking correctly will do a better job, in a shorter amount of time.

I mean when you train in the gym, sorry. Doing squats, leg extensions, hamstring curls etc.

I stuck to the leg press, which i barely fit into because of my height. That is where the bike came in.

When I had arch supports made, I hadn't been on a bike for atleast 6-8 years.

The supports also helped with the cramps I used to get, mostly in the calfs (Right side mostly).

Leg press is alright, but I don't find it trains accessory muscles very well, while the squat trains the whole leg. Doesn't get you too sore either. I guess you wouldn't have a problem with height using a squat bar either, if you choose to. To be fair, I think for a normal cyclist, the best way to train is just cycle harder than last time or for longer. Not a fan of the short interval training.

I would go to different places, so hills, up and down where you push it hard works everything very well.

Breathing exercises help quite a bit, especially when they are controlled.

Its good for my asthma when I do breathing exercises, but I find when i do other, more strenuous cardio, like running, it helps more over time and my VO2 increases. Hills and increasing cadence are really good.

Well just found this and saw posts of people sharing their bikes so I will just add mine here to. I have loved cycling for a long time but only started taking it serously 2 years ago.

I don't have a "road" bike as per se but it is a bike that is being riden.

We had a estimate on it and it was 250 bucks to replace the entire rear end. Which is the entire bike.
