Or at least do better than last year. Speaking of, does anybody remember what place we finished in the Marathon? Don't know if that's a statistic I can look-up.

Gonna mainly go for the marathon (second girl arrived yesterday... not gonna be able to play with computers for a while.)

Might be able to throw in a couple of AWS instances if projects don't need them, but haven"t had time yet to check docker or linux deployments.

 

At home I have 16 cores ready to go! (and a couple of GPUs)

If the magic blue smoke comes out of the electronic device, the voodoo spell escapes and you device doesn't work anymore . Then you need to buy new device from voodoo store while the staff chant cryptic specs of the device to cast the voodoo spell.

 

Or have I been misinformed how electronics work?

Alright, whipped together an account on rosetta@home and join the LTT_Team. Re-conjiggered my scripts and I'm ready to rock again. Just need to knock out my remaining WCG jobs and I'll get the rigs bunkering rosetta.

@miker07 Hopefully this is the correct person. You have a level of processing power ~equal to my own which is substantial. Wanna hop in and help the team out?  Hop back on Rosetta@Home you're already on the LTT team.

The first setup for it takes a bit.  Afterwards, the units come fairly quick.

yes, first time on Rosetta but they were stuck in downloading a long time. They're starting to flow but I've had to take some systems down to move memory about

I already had my 2nd rig on Rosetta, think I currently have it set to 85% usage on that 1900X.  I will bump it up to 90% tomorrow and see how it does.  That one is under Mint Mate 19.3, so the overhead should be lower.

 

My main rig is still busy finishing up Universe WUs.  But, I should have it over on Rosetta tomorrow.  I will later look into setup BOINC in terminal on my 3rd rig which runs CentOS.  My test MC server is over there, but it is a Xeon with 12c/24t, so it got plenty of extra threads.  Plus, it is a minimal CentOS 7 no GUI, so not a lot of overhead there either.

I think I recall seeing a post somewhere on tuning Rosetta a bit.  Let me see if I can re-find that info.

Hmn, I have a lot of RAM in most rigs but I don't think I can do that much for all of them.

Ah, okay, it was some old info on tuning the L3 cache.  Otherwise, Rosetta does love RAM.

I will be surprised if it puts a dent in my largest server's RAM.

Hmm.. the deadline i get when downloading from rosetta is may 2nd.. so how would i be able to bunker this data?  Do i need to wait to bunker until the deadline is may 5th?

My Internet is definitely feeling the strain of 10 VM's all asking for work simultaneously. The script I wrote is working flawlessly though for keeping track of the jobs as they roll in though:

I set all 10 to 5 days +1. So we will see what they all settle down around. I've never done Rosetta@Home before though so I don't know what to expect. Some of my rigs will definitely have more than enough RAM but some of the others I can't be so sure.

It's looking like no as the due by dates are only 2~3 days away.

 

And now for reason unknown my VM's are suddenly unresponsive. No idea what's going on.

 

Bad news is these Rosetta jobs take up a fair amount of space on the drive. I didn't expect this. I think I screwed myself. At least I have a couple days to fix it since we can't bunker till 2~3 days before the event.
