Whats the verdict on CPU OC on this thing?  Worthwhile at all?  I* put it at base just to see what it does and how much it is going to use it (which I set to 75%), but does an OC help much, barely, not at all? a lot?  I like the quiet fan curve but I suppose I can ramp things up for science if needed

i have my GPUs Oc 100 MHZ barely noticed a diffrence unsure about CPU OC.

go to memory options and try setting to 99% use at most.  and and increase page swap file usage too but would only do if on a ssd.

So E5-2600v3 generation and newer do rather well on Amicable for CPU but older than that takes a huge dive. I've split off my older and slower systems back on to Marathon and got my better ones doing Cross Country.

 

I'm doing about 30-34 WUs per hour (205k-232k per hour) for Cross Country.

It took a while to settle on best project configuration. I'm using a max of 12 CPUs per task which seems to avoid an issue where I was getting tasks randomly getting stuck at the end spinning 1 CPU thread and if that does happen it'll be 1 of 8 on my two larger systems.

 

I tried 8 CPUs per task but the performance drop heaps, probably not enough memory bandwidth. I also tried 24 CPUs and that also worked well, it's a toss up between 12 or 24 but went with 12 just for lower risk of job spaz.

 

You do also have to be mindful about ram usage as each task, like each GPU, needs a bunch of ram but that's not really a problem for me.

Hilariously when I opened task manager and saw 50% RAM usage, I still reflexively blamed chrome...

thanks, that has done the trick now every task has enough RAM to crunsh parallel.

Use fewer high core count CPUs vs more low core count CPUs.

 

Not to mention some projects are CPU only. That's where we can really shine.

 

Besides at the end of the day CPU or GPU you're still sucking a lot of power from the wall.
