BOINC Pentathlon 2020

If we can maintain our current hourly output on Universe we will take 8th place before it ends. However, if we can find just a little more power 7th isn't out of the question but we have to find it now if anybody has it.

Just added 3 more VMs with 24 cores, 2x E5-2690v3's. Might be able to do 2 more.

What service are you using? How much does it cost you?

Nothing, it's work resource. The hosts are 'idle' so mine now, just for 24 hours though.

Good timing. That's all we need.

Technically I could of used them the whole time but these ones...... yea need to not be used after 24 hours lol 😉

I'm using my powers of 'their VM isn't doing anything so this should be fine, right?'

I stopped my F@H CPU cores and I'm running BOINC now (and GPU F@H). (YAY)

PS..... Does anyone have a recommendation for a cooler for a R5 3600? I've been under clocking it to keep heat manageable, 2.77GHZ keeps temps in the high 160'sF. Case has [plenty of airflow, just looking for something cheap(ish) that works better then teh stock cooler.

I would check Gamers Nexus recent tests of Air Coolers, if I had to generalize most of them are pretty good anyway so long as you stick to the known good ones. The differences are very minimal.

Welcome aboard.

It’s only 65W so a Hyper 212 would handle it or a NH-U12S. It shouldn’t be running too hot with the stock cooler even running all cores 24x7 at stock clocks. If it is I’d check your mount.

My 2600 works just fine with a Wraith Stealth and I have a 2700 on a Wraith Stealth as well and another on a Hyper 212.

Last 2 VMs added so 120 more cores in play

Added 32 extra cores through my personnal cloud account (3-4€, compared to my electricity bill its gonna be fine) for pushing a bit extra on city run

Dang, as it stands it's gonna be difficult to gain in city run (universe@home).

We need 200,000 to 300,000 extra point per hour to manage to overtake them.

Still doable but this time every CPU count!

How do I force Boinc manager to read the config file for numberfields ? I've changed the config to <gpu_usage> 0.5 </gpu_usage> but Boinc has not picked up on it. When I did it on my other system it worked right away.

Under the options menu, the last 2.

Damn, I was afraid this was going to happen.

Where do you guys think we should go from here? Cut our losses and do another event or should we persevere?

We got a better run this hour, if the validation gods are in our favor we might very well be able to take 8th place.

We are still pretty consistent on the marathon.

I would say lets keep on the city run and cross finger, the chances are not so good but might very well work out

I'm hoping some of the high rank teams drop a bunch of work in the final hours and that allows my pending ones to also validate, if that happens we easily will pass, as long as the two ranks above us also don't similarly gain. I'm sitting on 5.57mil unverified points, crossing all fingers and limbs even half of that manages to spike at the end as that should just do it.

So they knew what we were up to and were prepared. I think this is the end of the road, let's at least defend our position until the end.

Also I forgot to startup the 1950X rig before I left for work. Not that that would have made a difference now.
