ok damn that card is boss!

And with that heavy OC at F@H you don’t get errors?

Well, it was folding for 20 days during the folding month with no errors/bad WUs.

Also, this GPU is sitting in open case in relatively cold place (CNC machines are located there but they are currently not working so ambient temperature is between 15C and 25C, but usually closer to 15C) and one corsair fan is sitting on top of the card and pulling out hot air. I'll try to make some photos tomorrow morning.

And yeah, that is truly one golden card there... My watercooled Aorus 1080 Ti is nowhere near that level of OC... Maximum I can put on it is +60 which yields around 2025-2050CC but it pulls around 150W more than usual.

Ah, that ambient temperature is probably helping out a lot.

The Maxwell and Pascals really like when the core temp can stay low.  Not sure how Turing behaves, as I have yet to mess with one but those probably behave similar.

damn nice,

don’t know, but my VII hates OC when folding.

BTW: is that one GPU with you 17mPPD? ?

Update, just notice Collatz is doing maintenance on the website.  So, the servers for WUs maybe down as well for maintenance.

Well yeah, ambient helps but it's still a monster of overclocker

hahha, hell no. I have 1070 and that 1080 Ti 24/7 and one 1080 Ti in main rig is going on and off through the day, about 6-7hours daily crunching

I'm very impressed with the penalty (or lack thereof) of QEMU virtualization and its use in setting up a single system to run multiple BOINC projects at once. I have my desktop running WCG & Einstein@home right now. I'll return with actual numbers today or tomorrow.

In the meantime I have to ask. Does anybody know the average WU time to finish Einstein tasks on a 290X on Windows 10?

This is why I'm very interested in mixing QEMU Virtualization with BOINC:

  • Left (or Top) is a Intel i7 5960X OC'd to 4.5GHz
  • Right (or Bottom) is a stock clocked (3.7GHz turbo) Ryzen TR1950X running BOINC inside a QEMU Virtual machine on CLI Debian Server 19.04.

422674708_Screenshotfrom2019-11-1400-58-49.thumb.png.43ed0a52cd2f16452b7534b35e1f639b.png 657418628_Screenshotfrom2019-11-1400-57-28.thumb.png.21b9d916ca06c2817d624dd9e89609e3.png

The time estimate is just that, an estimate and it's not a perfectly fair comparison due do being completely different platforms but it prove what I'm interested in trying very well. You could use QEMU to run multiple BOINC projects on your CPU at once and have virtually no compute performance penalty to the projects. QEMU boasts that it's overhead is only 1-3%.

And, I mean, optimizing the VM for compute performance isn't overly complicated @_@:

apt install virt-manager ovmf

virsh edit vm_name
virsh vcpupin vm_name

    <hugepages/>
  </memoryBacking>

  echo 'never' > /sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/defrag
echo 'never' > /sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/enabled

Yeah...just a couple of lines...

Now where this gets interesting is when you mix GPU compute in with it and start passing though GPU's to VMs (I won't go into the code there's not enough time in a day) but once you finish you could have a 2,3,4+ card BOINC or Folding rig crunching as many different projects as you have GPU's all at once with very little performance penalty.

So that's in the works. I can't buy the hardware to build something like this for myself though for a while.

I'm afraid you may be the only one my dude. None of my machines got that message. Unless you're new to WCG then yeah everyone got that.

Yeah, I am actually new, started not even a month ago. What does it actually mean?

I completed "the first task" way before today. However, I am not sure what they mean by "Research task".

What is the date marked on it? It could very well be an old notification that popped back up again. I've noticed that WCG seems to do that in the BOINC manager.

Only guess I can give you is either you finished your first job of a new project or it was a legitimate glitch. The African Rainfall Project showed up not long ago and even for my 5960X @ 4.5HGHz each job takes about 12hrs. Maybe it was one of those?

WCG doesn't have any GPU compatible projects right now so you just have the client running without it doing anything?

Oh God... I totally forgot it is WCG and not collatz... My GPU is crunching but CPU is idling.

Actually, I just added WCG to my BOINC manager 4 days ago but I haven't done a single WU for it...  No idea why I got that email and notification.
