NICE! So how much power does that take for wich completion time for each WU?

my VII is sitting at 290W and a unit takes 3:45-3:55min to complete. Also on water and about 56C and junction 90C

No idea about actual power usage, but HWiNFO reports up to 320W.

For Collatz Sieve 1.30 (opencl) WUs it takes exactly 8 minutes.

And next question (sorry, I have to much time today and am really getting into BOINC again)
 Anny Idea why there are two instances of my username on Boincstats

This: https://www.boincstats.com/stats/-1/user/detail/3466958/projectList is me now

and somehow some other points are here: https://www.boincstats.com/stats/-1/user/detail/2772688/projectList

Can anyone imagine how this could happen?

Looking at both's overview, it seems you have wound up with two cross project IDs.

Sometimes those will merge back, other times they won't.  Did you use a different email on a project?

Thats roughly  what I had to before reading this:

Apparently you can tweak some settings on how the app uses your GPU.

I copied the dude from message 130

Email...Dont think so... its like this for a long time and 2mPoints aint to bad to lose but I was just wondering why this happened.

So will a different email make another ID and not me merged because of the same name/team/country?

Hmmm, then not sure what cause that.

The only thing I'm aware of is using different emails on projects can cause different cross project IDs at times.

I been trying to get the .config file to play with my 1080Ti.  It just don't want to play ball it seems.  Keeps spitting out computation errors if I put anything into the .config file.

oh... make sure to edit the Nvidia specific one and also take of the OC for first tests. Mine looks like this:

verbose=1
cache_sieve=1
kernels_per_reduction=48
threads=7
lut_size=19
sleep=0
sieve_size=30

In the link I mentioned above they also talked about running 2 or more tasks per GPU at the same time. Idd love to do this but currently I am not able to get my client to read the app_config.xml :(

This should not cost performance, but fill in the gaps where one WU ends and a new one is started. Currently my VII idles for like 20sec when this happens -> dont want that!

I'm doing the specific one for Nvidia and I'm not doing any OC just stock clocks.  So far, I get computation errors.

I'm also making sure it saves as a .config file as well.

Ok.  Seems I got it working with this.

Hm did you have to create the file? Mine was already there and therefore in the right format.

Wich editor did you use? Idd recommend simply using notepad. I use Atom because I have it anyway for coding.

I got it working with a basic one now.  Seems to knock it down to doing a WU at about four minutes now.  Was previously eight to nine minutes.

I was trying with VS Code and then Notepad.

Still fine tuning at the moment.

Trying this config now.

verbose=1
kernels_per_reduction=48
threads=8
lut_size=18
sieve_size=30
cache_sieve=1
sleep=1
reduce_cpu=0

Seems if I bump to threads=9, my 1080Ti does not like that.  Which is odd since reading around others are getting 1080Tis to run with that.  I'm carefully at the moment testing per WU, got the rest in suspend and resuming between each to test.

Right now I got it down to 3:56 minutes on a WU.

Just be aware that optimizing is per GPU.  Some will do better with different settings.

Huh, this is odd, my GPU is now boosting lower and using less voltages with this setting.  Hmmm.  Though it is still pegged at 99% usage.

One of my best ones atm.  Was previously in the 527-538 seconds.  Now it drop to 250 or so seconds.

Capture.thumb.JPG.aff32c868d4033d8d85377ad6a51523d.JPG

O, yeah, I need install that water block.  xD  Just up my power limit to 115%.  O nelly, 76-77C now on the GPU.

It knock it down to 3:50 for a WU.  Hmmm, may just put it down back to 100% power limit.  Kinda don't want to run the GPU that hot.  Fastest done now is 3:44.

@Ithanul

You are using 1080 Ti?

Are these options currently best for you:

Spoiler

verbose=1
kernels_per_reduction=48
threads=8
lut_size=18
sieve_size=30
cache_sieve=1
sleep=1
reduce_cpu=0

Also, where is that .config file?

I found this one: collatz_sieve_1.30_windows_x86_64__opencl_nvidia_gpu.config

at this location: C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\boinc.thesonntags.com_collatz

but when I open it with notepad it is empty. Is that the one and should it be empty by default?

Yes, I'm currently testing on a 1080Ti FTW3.  And that is the settings I am testing atm.

I advise, suspend all the collatz WUs and test per WU until you are sure you don't get ones with computation errors as they will error out really fast.

Yep, that is the file.  Just make sure when you save, do save as and make sure to select all file types and it saves as a .config not a .config.txt

Hmmm, just doing a test with lut_size=19.  That is a no go on a 1080Ti, my times went back up.  Seems currently lut_size=18 is a sweet spot for 1080Tis.

I will later get BOINC install on my 2nd rig that has Mint Mate 19.3.  I have a 960 and 1070 in there.  May see what those can do on collatz with tuning.  Thinking of doing up addition to main post for configurations for collatz or other projects.

Holy moly...

From 8:00-8:30 down to 3:40. That's insane! How is this possible?

Tho, I noticed that my GPU is no longer only voltage limited... Now it is fighting between voltage and power limit and it is pegging GPU usage to 100% while it was 90-95% before tweaking. Also, CC is jumping around like crazy from 2000 to 2050, now it reminds me of AMD cards...

How safe is this even and where can I check if there are any errors?

Event Log from Ctrl+Shift+E is not giving any info other then download/upload/finishes.

Yep.  I saw an used one floating around for 650 bucks (soooo tempted since those are beastly compute cards).

Be interesting to see how it would respond to undervolting.

BOINC will say computation error before it sends and you check on the collatz website to see what WU are valid or invalid.

But yeah, once you set the .config, it hammers the GPU.  I will probably not run OC currently as mine is stock air cooled.  Seems I finally have a reason again to water block my GPUs.

As a test run, I got my 1080Ti at 115% power limit and a +70 on core.  It is pegging around 1949-1968MHz on the core.  Temps at 78-79C.  It is most likely getting throttle over temps.  Fastest with that setting is 3:39.

Now I'm testing with a 95% power limit with no OC on the core clock.

Report, it did a WU at 3:48 with a 95% power limit and no OC.  Temps at around 71-72C.

but on the Web Control I cam see the WUs not being returned or aborted bcs of the error.

How at times I miss North Cali for Fall and Winter.  Open window and bam, cold temps for the computer.

Here in Florida, opens window, gets smack by the high humidity.  The Fall temps are 73-78F in Florida.

Oh, I have 186 error ones but those are mostly due to my stupidity while setting up BOINC and aborting "some units"... I'll keep an eye there to see if any are getting errors.

Also, I tried this on my other 1080Ti which was not fully utilized (kept using 50-70% on collatz) and now it is pegging it to 100%, however for some reason the CC dropped from 2063 to 1949 on that card.

Suprisingly, this card is doing collatz WUs in 3:20-3:40... Even better than my watercooled 1080 Ti. ?

BOINC will say computation error before it sends and you check on the collatz website to see what WU are valid or invalid.

But yeah, once you set the .config, it hammers the GPU.  I will probably not run OC currently as mine is stock air cooled.  Seems I finally have a reason again to water block my GPUs.

As a test run, I got my 1080Ti at 115% power limit and a +70 on core.  It is pegging around 1949-1968MHz on the core.  Temps at 78-79C.  It is most likely getting throttle over temps.

Mine (watercooled one) now tops at 68 C while it was going up to 63 before.

Will have to try editing some things in .config to see how it affects performance. But I am not sure how much overclock should I run now...

Reason I am currently messing with lower power limits.

At the moment, with 80% power limit and no OC, my 1080Ti is averaging around 4:05-4:10 per WU.  Temps at 64-65C with air cooling.   With it limited down, its core clock is around 1733-1746MHz.

Interesting, I drop it down to a 70% power limit and the core clocks are at 1632-1670MHz.  Temps at 60-61C.  It is completing WUs around 4:15.  Hmmmm.

My results:

1080Ti Watercooled

Stock settings: 4:10 per WU and 260W

Full overclock: 3:40 per WU and 350W

1080Ti 3 slot cooler:

Stock settings: 4:00 per WU and 250W

Full overclock: 3:30 per WU and 300W

I guess my Aorus watercooled card really lost silicon lottery...
