My computers have only completed 19 ARP jobs and I picked up the project as soon as it became available. One of my servers is reporting that a job is going to take over 24hrs to complete. These things are massive.

Same, I set it to grab some, but none have yet to shown up.  I would just be glad to get just one so I can see how the 1950X handles it.

Haven't posted here in about almost 3 weeks. I see I'm closing in on 6th place for WCG and miker07 is threatening my position. He was up around my output which means he may have the resources to go even higher.

They're actually really good. For some reason BOINC can't pin the threads at 100, so it tends to be mid 50s.

Hmm, interesting.  Still, that is nice temps for that many cores/threads.

Did you check your preferences? Chances are it's still set to the default 85 or 90% CPU time and that 1~2% on top is actual system processes.

You're better off not pegging it though. I've learned though experimenting during the BOINC Pentathlon that pegging it causes Windows to choke on itself and your output actually drops compared to if you leave it at 90%~95%. For this reason I don't peg my server (plus I need it to still function for my actual needs).

If you want real performance/output numbers though install Linux and the BOINC package. Compared to Linux Windows BOINC productivity is terrible. You can also push your overall utilization a little higher. 96%+ without than performance penalty. I leave 1C/2T free on the rigs I've dedicated to BOINC. % time 100%

I did have it set to 100. I don’t use the computer yet, so pinning it doesn’t matter much. I’ve tried everywhere from 80-100 and it maxes out at 93.

I won't be catching you anytime soon with similar output. You are way ahead and points really take a while to accrue. I really wish the WCG and Boinc points were the same, instead of about 1/7th.  Just looking to get into the top 15-20 for now in WCG, and maybe adjust my goals once I get there.

I wonder if it's a bug in Windows Desktop where it still can't handle 32C/64T. I'd try it on Linux and use something like htop. See if it maxes out any better.

Will admit based on your post count I did not expect to receive a reply.

And I know but if you're anything like leadeater one day I see you're at 74,000/day the next 130,000+/day. Basic math dictates if I hold my output you'd only catch up to be based on the difference which if it's not that much greater would be a long long time.

I do agree with the strange difference of numbers. My actual point count on WCG is 56,797,560 but that's reflected as 8,151,670 on BOINCstats. No idea how they do the conversion. I don't understand it. I'd much rather have the actual Point Count value even though I know I'd be in the exact same place I am now.

My current milestone goal is to return 100,000 results. We will see what I decide to go for after that.

Eventually. I just have it running in Windows because it was quick. I don't have the time to troubleshoot it.

Hi all, newbie to BIONIC here. I've been wanting to build a new PC for a while and have always been interested in distributed computing. I also recently lost a parent to cancer, so I would like to build a machine for the Mapping Cancer Markers project on World Community Grid.

I'm currently reading whatever threads/guides I can find, but I'd appreciate your thoughts on the following...

- Bang for buck, do CPUs or GPUs provide the best results for projects like MCM?

- Are used rackmount servers worth considering, or is modern desktop tech just too good to beat now?

- If you were building a dream BIONIC work unit crunching machine, how would you spec it?

Thanks everyone. Hopefully soon I can join the team and start number crunching.

No. Guessing the utilization issue in Windows is a scheduling thing.

Not sure what is up.

I notice Universe@Home is not showing up anymore on my stats.  :I  I'm still getting points and doing WUs with it, but it is not showing up at all over on BOINCstats anymore for me.  And that is 12mil+ points of CPU crunching.  So, I'm tad annoyed.

Update:  I think I found my issue which is probably the issue for others.  Universe@Home added the preference option for exporting data to BOINC statistic websites which is set to off by default.  So, for anyone that crunches that, go check the preference settings on your account for that project and other projects.

I guess my next goal can be 50 years of Total Run Time.

Should only take ~55 days.

GUUUIIIIZ I am getting back at BOINC full time!

Its verry important to me to do something for medicine and since needing AMD GPUs (for work) I can only Fold with them

But right now I ordered my 3900X and will get 10 of its cores on Rosetta ASAPPP! Or WCG? Whats your recommendation?

FOLDING MONTH 2021! GOGOGO and save on some heating costs 🙂

AMD Threadripper 1950X (run during the day when I'm home)

Most running different distros of Debian. (Ubuntu server, PROXMOX, Ubuntu Desktop) except the dual E5-2698v3 rig that's Windows Server 2016 Datacenter 64-bit edition. Will be replacing it with Ubuntu Server someday.

Also have a pair of Sapphire R9 290X's crunching on the 1950X rig but that's not relevant to WCG (still no GPU compatible tasks) so I have them on Einstein@home.
