Set to be available in a 3.5-inch form-factor, Innodisk’s Fire Shield SSD is rated to survive temperatures of up to 800°C as well as direct exposure to flames for up to 30 minutes retaining 100% of the data it stores.

Very useful if you have sensitive data you wouldn't want to lose in case of a fire. Also useful for vehicles like planes that can crash and burst into flames.

I genuinely have a tri-SLI fermi PC but it has an FX 9590

What's worse is that the SSD trays are right under the grilling surface on the GTX 480

It's even better when you think about how easy it is to put something to burn the chips and contain the fire for an e-mergency disposal of data ?

1. A plane isn’t a vehicle.

2. It’s called a black box

right... which is something planes have, and thus, be useful for planes.

........... Copper is well known as being easily damaged by relatively low temperatures (Compared to other metals) and is well known as a heat conductor.

So how in the fuck, exactly, is a copper alloy supposed to protect your data?

800C is a little over 1400 degrees F. That's over half the melting temperature of iron (at which they lose a significant amount of structural integrity). As someone with even minor experience working with hot metals like iron and steel, I can tell you that they become like butter at that kind of temperature.

I'm gonna need to see independent testing on this, because it makes no sense to me. Copper melts at 1984F or 1085C.

My reasoning is rather simple. Glass melts at a temperature between 1400c and 1600c depending on the composition. I know from experience that you can EASILY deform the hell out of glass beer bottles in a simple wooden campfire. And I know from further experience that burning a rooms worth of carpet EASILY exceeds that kind of heat.

Yeah.... there's a reason if I ever buy or build a house (preferably build) it will be 100% hardwood floors. (Not just because carpet is an accelerant fueled fire waiting to happen.)

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

This sounds awesome but I too struggle to imagine how it's physically possible.  Never mind having flash retain data at 800 C, how do you have the PCB not burn, the copper/gold/etc. not melt, etc.?

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
