Where is this mythical land of $1.79 a gallon gas?

The central east coast area in my town (there is a mom 'n pop station across from my 'hood that offers gas, pizza and laundry washing)

Everywhere else it's right around 2$ but this one has cheap gas.

This things are suprisingly efficient. You can get up to 200+ mpg on one of these things for what is essentially a lawn mower motor strapped to a bike frame.

Of course my electric bike get's 1000+ mpg, but that's for another day.

Got a few more features than a strimmer powered bicycle :)

Round here our petrol is £1.20 per litre and diesel is £1.25 per litre, which judging by what others from the UK have said is quite cheap. But that's probably because we have 4 supermarkets within a mile of each other, which brings the prices down.

So for you Americans, that equates to about $5.68 per US Gallon (or $6.82 per proper gallon) for petrol, or for diesel (the better fuel) $5.92 per US Gallon

Having said that, I refused to travel by car most places, because it's far cheaper to just take the bus. My commute, which is about 25 miles each way, costs about £8 in diesel per day, but my bus pass has just gone down to £95 per month which is less than £5 per day (assuming I only use it on work days, which I don't).

Up here in the north east, we have one of the best public transport systems in the UK, and our buses are nicer than most peoples cars! We have leather seats, tables, Wi-Fi, Sockets and USB ports for charging

Standard Electric efficiency metric is MPGe (MPG equivalent). It would be a very small stretch to assume that’s what you were talking about, since many people don’t bother listing the “e” at the end, when comparing fuel efficiencies.

But, let’s be done with that. What exactly do you drive that gets 100 MPG?

Not them, but supposedly the Honda Super Cub and similar bikes get around that range. If we're talking about actual purpose built ICE vehicles and not something like a lawnmower engine bolted on an existing product.

If treated like a 3 wheeler they're pretty stable. No braking on fast/sharp corners, turn in smoothly, keep light power on round corners and leave some weight in the back. The damn thing weighs less than it's carrying capacity. I tow trailers with mine, one of them is a former mark 2 Robin.

As much fun as it is, I prefer my old Alfa. It has climate control and generally doesn't let hailstones through every rubber seal there is, oh and out of the heater vents. Also it starts without issue, and the doors close properly, and it drinks a bit less oil.

FYI 95 Octane in Europe isn't the same as in the US.

95 Euro octane is ~roughly 91 Octane in the US. That's not race car fuel - pretty standard "premium" fuel. Very typical for cars with a Turbo, which are pretty common in Europe.

Gotcha.  I use 91 Premium in my G35, and 89 Regular in my truck.  Northern states usually have 93 as their Premium.

Interesting how Europe has different Octane calculations than the US.  Well not unexpected, we can't do shit the same way as the rest of teh world :)

According to Wikipedia, most of Europe uses the RON octane measurement system. The US uses (RON + MON)/2.

Dunno why anyone chose one or the other. I'm surprised the US isn't using RON because that's usually the higher number :P

98 $2.469

95 $2.379

91 $2.169

Diesel $ 1.539

Price is NZD and Diesel doesn't include the same taxes as petrol. We pay $72 per 1000km as a road user charge on top of the fuel price above for the average car.
