i just got it in, so no reviews just yet

You're writing reviews now?

I'll save you the trouble of voiding your warranty.

A quick google search found a review of the Seasonic Focus Gx-650, GX-750, and GX-850. It includes brief internal examination, efficiency testing, voltage regulation testing (with crossloads aswell), standby testing, and ripple testing.

He has already told us that he's not going to get a load tester, oscope etc, so..... Take from that what you want.

Plus years and years of research on power supplies yet alone general electronics.

The same reviewer tested the GX-1000 too - https://quasarzone.co.kr/bbs/board.php?bo_table=qc_qsz&wr_id=313607&page=2

And the Focus PX (Platinum): https://quasarzone.co.kr/bbs/board.php?bo_table=qc_qsz&wr_id=307283&page=4

we're currently debating to split it up, as the 1000 failed in ripple testing at 110% on 3.3 and 5vsb

thanks

I saw the g5 650w for a reasonable price and was considering it, but I wasn't sure since it wasn't on the list

What do you propose we do as a guide to help people choose the best quality PSU they can afford without using a tier list?

First I believe you need to understand what you are writing. A good idea doesn't mean a good execution.

On 10/15/2019 at 6:44 PM, LukeSavenije said:

the whole call was to make the list less subjective, so I've set up requirements to show I'm not doing it in random order. this is why units like the t2 and prime are in tier a.

It's exactly the opposite. If you focus on two points and make those two points much more important then everything else you're being subjective.

how do you then propose someone to objectively rank PSUs for ease of selection for newbies?

that is the goal with this list.

Seasonic is focusing much more on sending review samples to not reviewers, when the reviews came with the problems of the Focus. So they all got a 9 or 10 out of 10. And the reviews with the problems didn't stand out anymore.

So what now,

SEASONIC FOCUS GX-550 yes or no? Good in replies, get email within few minutes.....RMA policy is great, send PSU to UK warehouse and ship back from Germany with UPS/Fedex within 2-3 days.

SUPERFLOWER LEADEK III 550 is a little cheaper, but don't like their RMA policy...you send their PSU in EUROPE where? Sent them email, no reply after a week.

so you're saying they're sending me one because I'm not a reviewer, and not you because you totally didn't almost attack that rep on tweakers?

what is then the least bad execution for creating a easy to use "guide" to select a PSU?

doesnt need to be a guide or even a list. just something for newbies like myself and many others to use when looking for a good PSU. and a newbie would like to avoid a deep dive into details, or have to look through 10 + reviews to find something adequate.

bonus points would be something for the "buildguide" section of a forum to use.

edit: i think something along those lines is what @MEC-777 was interested in.

The question still stands, we're genuinely curious to hear your input on how to make a better PSU guide/list...

Those "two points" are affixed to objective data, not something subjective like aesthetics. Did he somewhat subjectively choose those two aspects to be of higher importance? That's arguable. But they were chosen with the best interests of the user in mind.

If you have a better suggestion, we're open to hear it.

Since EVGA released a 2019 version of the GD - series, I think it's important to point out the reviews aren't out for it yet, and yet this tier list in Tier-A says EVGA "GD".

These units are surprisingly cheap: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/vHhmP6/evga-gd-2019-500-w-80-gold-certified-atx-power-supply-100-gd-0500-v1 ($45 at Newegg after $15 Mail in rebate); and will therefore draw people who buy based on brand and tiering, who may confuse the fact that the new 2019 GD's haven't been confirmed to be Tier A yet.

You should probs remove that confusion until you actually know what rank you want the new GD's to have.
