Any brand makes good and bad products, the VS is by no means a good unit.

I don't know what "people" you're referring to but usually individual experiences hold little importance on the great scheme of things.

Many people recommend vs series to me and i got one, it fried on first day though. Using thermalake tr2 500w since then (1 year) someone who used only laptops for hos whole life, all this stuff can be very confusing to him.

psu's in general are

and the vs line has improved, but is in my opinion still far from ideal because the use of a regulation i'd just leave in the past. tr2 has also shown it's problems

What kind of problems are we talking about? Since i only know that psu supply power to components, that's it.

most of those psus in "dont buy" section, people consider those as good branded psus specially the corsair vs series

Well, quite a few of them are very good.  The tier lists issues have been a topic of discussion for some time.

It's a shame how much miss-guidance there is out the in regards to choosing a PSU, which also happens to be one of the most important components. I see it all the time on PC enthusiast Facebook groups, people recommending PSUs based on brand "anything by Seasonic or EVGA." is common, or "anything gold rated". >_<

To be fair if there is a "buy anything x" brand it would be Seasonic.

I struggle to find any detailed testing of FSP Hydro GE ?

Slightly slanted components are ok.

looks like it actually doesn't work anymore, unfortunate but I was curious about it anyway so judging by what i've seen about the fsp hydro ge it doesn't seem to be too bad. I'll just buy another one

thanks for the help, I might post it on johnnyguru's forums to see if someone else there has something to say

Any feedback on the this SilverStone Strider Gold S 650W Fully-Modular. I currently have an i5-9400F and an rx 480 but I'm about to buy an rx 5700 next year. I wanted to buy from the focus series but it's got some bad feedbacks on it. I checked pcpartpicker and I don't see any builds related to it.

I believe that's a Tier A unit. Should be more than good enough. Wattage is plenty for that system, even with a 5700.

Ah, that's the GS from Tier B. It's fine though. I'd still use it. ;)

Phanteks AMP 750 review, Seasonic Focus Plus Gold https://www.kitguru.net/components/power-supplies/zardon/phanteks-amp-750-power-supply-review/

KitGuru reviewer Zardon claims it's a "modified" Focus: "This power supply is a Seasonic Design – a modified Focus Plus Gold unit.", but they didn't explain how they think it is modified, and I don't see it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They didn't bother with identifying any components either, so I wonder how they concluded it's modified.

I was going to be a smartass and say something like "It has Phanteks written on the transformer, that's how it's modified"... But nope, not even that.

Only difference I spot between the two is the Seasonic is using Nippon Chemi-con primary hold up cap while the Phantex is using Rubycon caps, but that's not a modification. Besides that I'd have no way of telling the difference between the two just by looking at them. At least the Asus Strix based off the same platform is easy to spot with its ROG heatsinks and black PCB.

On the bright side looking at Newegg US prices the 550W Phanteks Amp ($90) is currently $10 cheaper than the Focus Plus Gold ($100). So I guess if you're in the market for a Focus Plus Gold you can save $10 and just buy the Phanteks instead? The 650W and 750W models are priced the same as Seasonic.

the only thing that comes to mind is that it's based off the GX, but i haven't checked that

if you want to yourself, there are shots on Seasonic's website
