Show off your Lego!

When I was a kid, I lived in Denmark...so LEGO was my only toys.

I built a lot of things from scratch, but I guess my biggest accomplishment was a facehugger from the movie Alien (proper sized)

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

I mostly do Technic stuff, here's my most recent project:

Spoiler

20190629_115542.thumb.jpg.54b9514e6b79f5d175b8f75d54ca05b7.jpg20190629_115622.thumb.jpg.63a0f8497c28fedfeb4c24eda34808aa.jpg

It's an Arnfield-style gravity escapement with a triple-pulley weight and a differential maintaining power. It's a little dusty because it's been dormant for a couple months; developed an irregular rhythm after I knocked the pendulum and I've been waiting to get access to the Legos again so I can add to it when I readjust it. Prior to that it had been running nonstop for more than 6 months. The runtime is about 25 hours with a 1-meter drop, and when properly adjusted I actually can't measure any inconsistency in its rhythm with a stopwatch and a few hours to kill. I haven't added a display yet because I'm working on a full-fat perpetual calendar mechanism.

The problem with a clock made of Legos is that the pieces just aren't precise enough; all axles are bent just enough and all gears are just asymmetrical enough to make a precise anchor or deadbeat escapement near-impossible. That's the beauty of a gravity escapement: It doesn't matter if the driving power is inconsistent, because the thing that's pushing the pendulum is effectively a free-hanging weight.

The open differential sitting on top is the addition of a cousin who insisted it was a mechanically necessary component.

"Do as I say, not as I do."

-Because you actually care if it makes sense.

I recently got the Slave-1 set and it was amazing to build, took me a good few hours but my is it beautiful set!

I'll try to remember to give it some repairs after my dog knocked it off a table and broke part of it off, haven't much time to fix it lately and post some pics!

Should I do another time-lapse?

I had the older Slave 1 set. It's in pieces in my many Lego bins now, but I loved the thing.

i'm actually a little proud of this one.

My Video shooting/editing skill went up by about 9000%. I still hate video editing and it's obviously not near perfect but i do like it a lot.

Enjoy peeps!

You can't even image dude. I rendered the damn thing at least 30 times until it didn't crash. That's also why it's only 1080p and not 4k because that never went through. Not sure if I am the issue or DaVinci Resolve is but I always got the same error.

The editing experience was also mostly crap even though I do have an 8 core Ryzen.

I'd liked Lego when I was younger but could never afford the sets I wanted but the much later on as an adult, my brother reignited a love for Lego when he gave me this little robot minifigure:

P1020566-L.jpg

He chose this minifigure as it represents me, the little robot that fixes computers.  Since then it's become a bit out of hand and now at a bit of stalemate as I don't like dismantling the sets but no space to build new ones.

What surprises me is how many other adults love Lego as I thought it was almost something to hide, at Christmas in the office I decided to take in a few Lego decorations which my boss adored and so the next year wanted more so ended up with a display like this:

20181210_133627-L.jpg

My favourite Lego build is probably the Chiron which is just an incredible piece of engineering, I took it into work to show someone who was thinking of buying it but still keep it on my desk as I like it seeing it all the time.  It frequently draws a lot of attention when people come by, I'd never tried a timelapse of a build before so there are issues with it but still gives a good idea of the complexity of the vehicle:

Although I've not really had anything to do with Ninjago I bought the Ninjago city block as I though the design was fantastic:

After vowing not to buy any more Lego they released the Stranger Things set which I had to buy as it's so clever:

Finally i cleaned up a little at my parents and can show you my complete collection!

None of them is really in a "display"-Mode as they are just stuffed together until i have enough space at my place to really show them off.

56k Warining - HUGE Pics ahead!

Spoiler

Here's my OG Star Destroyer together with the OG Falcon! Also, my old lava lamp, lmao.

i'm currently VERY close to purchasing the new ISD because it's quite a bit more detailed. The 700€ price tag kinda puts me off though.

The newer Falcon model is also quite a bit nicer but this one is now almost vintage and i can't really justify having two of them, whereas a personal fleet of ISD's.....

Spoiler

That's Empire vs. Rebellion right here with 5 Tie's (including vaders), a Lambda-Shuttle and Bobas Slave. On the other side we have the small Falcon, an A-Wing, B-Wing and two X-Wings.The UCS Y-Wing and Snowspeeder can be found in my Timelapse Videos :)

MQ0ULhe.jpg

8d6nyO9.jpg

Spoiler

Next up is the Age of the Republic with only a couple sets.

First off the ARC-170 which is the predecessor of the famous and before seen X-WIng. (and two Eiffel-Towers because why not)

YTI4X4m.jpg

And then we also have the Clone Wars version Republik Gunship including a Model of Plo Koon which was the main motivation to get the set, lol.

There's also Obi Wan's Eta-2 together with R4, A Droid Ship that includes a Buzz-Droid and the predecessor AT-ST from the Clones.

2TKjHnA.jpg

Spoiler

Last but not least (because i forgot a few sets...) here's one i am very proud of, the OG Death Star II.

It's in not so great condiiton because the stand is legit dogshit and the thing fell over (10 years ago....) so i'm currently rebuilding! There also seem to be a few parts missing and two are broken, so there's that...

Thanks for reading guys! i'll make sure to update once i have pics of everything!

Is anyone interested in a build post... I've been documenting the various stages of the last 2 builds I did... I'm new to building kits again as I'd not done since I was a kid and I'm now 40 and have spare cash to play with.  :)

I've built 2 and have 2 more kits on the way... All Star Wars themed ships.

I'll say now... they're not official Lego but Chinese copies of retired Lego kits that are no longer available. I'm also starting to take an interest in MOC kits that in many cases are far superior to the Lego ones containing 3-4 times as many pieces whilst still being a lot cheaper.

For example the current Lego Star Destroyer is £650 in the UK and is about 5000 pieces, whilst you can get an 11000 piece one that's not much bigger but looks so much better and is around $300 USD.

So here's a couple of pics... let me know if you want more.  :)1703017501_2019-10-0617_51_38.thumb.jpg.2e2f5487362648a31e035e399798259b.jpg

I'm getting anxious waiting for the B wing to arrive that I ordered about 2 weeks ago and the X-Wing that I ordered the beginning of this week. Fingers crossed the B-Wing arrives by tomorrow so I can build over the weekend and the X-Wing a couple of weeks after that.

The main problem is that my dining room table is now covered in lego kits and I have no where to put that SSD at the moment.

I did clearly state they were Chinese versions of retired Lego kits... IK have no problem with that because you cannot buy them anymore unless you look for 2nd hand kits that are even more expensive than the originals.

For example, the SSD can't be found for less than £550 on ebay here in the UK when I checked... The original kit was only around £300-400 when it came out in 2011... I paid £110 on the current exchange rate.

I'm not infringing Lego's copyright as the patents for lego expired decades ago, I'm technically infringing Disney's IP of the Star Wars stuff but it's not actually called Star Wars... So there's the moral/ethical grey area... and I am also aware that I'm helping to support an oppressive regime.

Which is one of the reasons why I am looking more towards MOC kits now as these are built by enthusiasts and can be picked up for a lot less than Lego kits that are inferior to those enthusiast creations.
