RX 590 Just around the corner as reviewer tweets about it

Some of people have posted items related to the rumored RX 590 before but this time we got a tweet from Andreas Schilling from HardwareLuxx -

 

...and there's actually nothing new to say about it except that a tweet from a reviewer means it literally is almost launch time.

 

An article at fudzilla states -

[...] AMD has been gearing to launch a Polaris-refresh graphics card which will be based on a 12nm Polaris GPU, usually referred to as Polaris 30, and should offer an improvement of around 10 to 15 percent, at least according to our sources. It also appears that those sources were pretty much spot on with the November launch date, although some Chinese sites were pointing at end of October.

 

The box shot published by Andreas Schilling from HardwareLuxx, as well as earlier pictures of Powercolor's Radeon RX 590, pretty much confirmed the name as well as the fact that this is a 12nm GPU. Other noted features on the box include support for Radeon FreeSync 2 HDR, Chill, ReLive, and more.

More actual news - There were reports made awhile back that AMD would cut off driver support for 32-bit OS as Nvidia has already done the same before.

So you might want to think about upgrading your 32-bit system to 64-bit before buying a new card.

 

My thoughts - 

I don't hear people mention the RX 480 when it was actually the first with the architecture aimed at the mid-range price point.

 

The "meh" - The RX 580 was a refresh with higher clocks and modified power delivery specs and now they are launching a refresh of a refresh.

The good -  At least you know they'd be supporting the older models for a longer time because driver updates would reach the RX 480s. lol.

The bad - Nothing to be proud about. They're just cashing in on the holidays as we won't be seeing any new stuff for a long time. Not that Nvidia is any better re-launching the GTX 1060.

We should be seeing some second hand GTX 1070s & GTX 1080s that were used in mining or other stuff coming up sites which should be more attractive than this.

In my country retail stores are selling brand new ASUS ROG STRIX RX VEGA 64s for $358.

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

How I plan my builds -

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

It's not exciting to this forum, because the LTT is predominantly attracted to the latest and greatest enthusiast RTX 2069 card with Dick Tracing IRL. That's the nature of a niche tech forum about a channel of which dedicated PC graphics hardware becomes less and less of a content proportion.

 

But for me and many others, looking to upgrade from a GTX 760 or whatever to an affordable cards after we get our Christmas paychecks it's very good news.

 

Time to get a used 1080 :)

Yeah the most popular cards are the lower to mid tier. The 1060 is the most prominent GPU for gamers but a large margin. It's just people cover the latest and greatest because it shows were the technology is at

In my opinion, AMD supports their hardware for that long by the time they stop it isn't really worth it anyway. I dropped a hd 7950 into my rig when my Vega 64 died and instantly it worked. A card that came out in 2012. I believe even older cards than that are still supported by the newer drivers.

So, I have an RX480 in my htpc in my living room as the tv in there is only 1080p. But I also have my dedicated gaming rig with a GTX1080 hooked to a 4k display. So I have both worlds here. An AMD pc with an AMD card (mid-range setup) and an Intel pc with an Nvidia card (high end setup). Just wanted to get that out of the way as I am not bias toward either brand. 

On to this new RX590, I know refreshes are a thing, but a refresh of a refresh is just a kick in the teeth for people like me who bought the RX480 when it was new and would like an upgrade, but all their mid-range offerings for the last 3 years have been barely an improvement. I OC my RX480 and it's barely behind whats reported for the RX590, just marginally better, not enough to go buy a whole new card. With news after news of just small refreshes, nothing I have seen from AMD excites or impresses me anymore, I'm hoping Navi changes that... but that remains to be seen.

 

I really want AMD to step up their game and actually become a player again, make crazy dual GPU cards again, put new creative cooling solutions and crazy designs on their cards again, and bring back a true red vs green rivalry. I mean clearly Nvidia doesn't see them as a threat, hence the "charge an exorbitant amount of money for marginally better performance and new features you can't really even use yet cards", and it hurts us as consumers... *sigh*

More actual news - There were reports made awhile back that AMD would cut off driver support for 32-bit OS as Nvidia has already done the same before.

So you might want to think about upgrading your 32-bit system to 64-bit before buying a new card.

 

My thoughts - 

I don't hear people mention the RX 480 when it was actually the first with the architecture aimed at the mid-range price point.

 

The "meh" - The RX 580 was a refresh with higher clocks and modified power delivery specs and now they are launching a refresh of a refresh.

The good -  At least you know they'd be supporting the older models for a longer time because driver updates would reach the RX 480s. lol.

The bad - Nothing to be proud about. They're just cashing in on the holidays as we won't be seeing any new stuff for a long time. Not that Nvidia is any better re-launching the GTX 1060.

Only problem is that mid range cards like RX590 should really be at GTX 1070/RX Vega 56 performance levels by now. The good is that they aren't calling it RX680 which is a nice relief. RX590 makes it named what it actually is. I wish they've done that with RX480->RX580 transition. It should really be called RX490... But ok, at least they've done it right this time. I'm really intesrested to see how it'll perform and what the price it'll be. Because now, thanks to crypto shit being dead, people will actually be able to buy these things. And for normal prices. Crazy, right? :D

its a node shrink, so powertarget doesnt have to go up at all to get something extra out of it. expect something like Zen to Zen+ which is just a node shrink without dieshrink and anything else

I know its a shrink, but Im betting its 75-100w more power to get a performance ratio worth purchasing.  Just a guess based off the trends of releases that I am going to stick to until shrinking proves the trend wrong - weve been shrinking architecture and increasing watts in waves.  This wave looks to me like a last boost of wattage left for Polaris to eek out enough performance to buy it.

Im not sure because I haven't done any real research on this but...could they include the Infinity Fabric in the GPU this round (I would assume not as its old architecture but Im a newb so not sure what that would mean/take) - to actually compete and be viable?

Honestly this is where we're at right now: AMD's main feature might end up being a name that makes fucking sense like 590: You see if you have a 580 and revise it? Well you add 10 more! 

 

Is that too much fucking math for you Nvidia? If you release another "1060" it apparently fucking is.

Note that this of course doesn't reflects performance or price but at this point who fucking cares these are just cop-out products so watch 480 and 1060 launch review and you pretty much know what to expect there.
