Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Been looking at BMW's but their un-necesarily 3 to 4 times more expensive to insure and i keep going back on the used marketplace just going for all other brands lately.

S90 sounds alot fun, i can still throw my dog in the backseat with a strap and he'll be safe.

Would think seeing as ive turned 25 that insurance wouldnt be hell.. but oh no, its much more expensive than i thought 😛

Audi 3.0TDI and awd cars.. Mostly audi's, not sure if i should go for newer models if they have hardwired/electronic ESP's you cant disable..

Getting annoying i cant fully disable my FWD's antispin unless i use a OBD scanner and "temporarily" disable it.

Realisitic value on my v70 is 220-260k NOK (25,3k~30k~) so thats kinda the range im looking at..

Not 10-20k NOK car thats been through hell and beyond, no offence to people buying those cars..

Just seen alot of friends go through the endless cycle of fixing their cars.

Maybe just bad luck, but i think im gonna stay on newer models for a while.

S90 AWD.. Never thought about that car, S80 AWD with a V8 sounds pretty fun too.

edit: Found a beautiful blue-light S90 AWD but.. Big dent on the inner-fender behind right-front tire and the entire leftside front panel was.. crushed.

Looking continiues haha, currently driving a white volvo v70 so others colours would just be so much more awesome x'D

edit2: Found another S90 AWD blue-light, 52000$, oof. Basicly 20k more than i have haha x'D

But damn.. insurance on this didnt look so bad. And its a 2017 model too :'D

Any new-ish car .. .you cant properly fully disable the electronics

if you want to have fun in a car without electronics .. go for an old one ... and keep the V70 as a car in case the old one dies or to have something somewhat reliable.

For AWD you can look into subarus ... but only with a manual gearbox and avoid the diesels

It's a 20 year old Chicago car, also needs the aux pump under the intake manifold that's a 5.3hr book time job.

I know they come off easy, I've had enough VAG and been elbow deep VAG before, but I also know how much rust sucks and I'm not sure it's ever been apart before at 160K miles.

And it needs 2 cats.

Been looking at a decent priced OBD scanner to turn of the antispin on the V70 so i can properly throw my car at closed parkinglots in the winter but more often than enough ive seen friends cars just turn to shit when the obd returns more errors than i want to explore myself.. All tho this is on much older cars.

My friends and family said the same thing, keep the V70 and save up haha.

I take the luxury this volvo does for me a bit for granted when i look at other models x)

Currently looking at 20 inch wheels and if it can lower my car even with gravel roads where i live 😄

Being it's finally getting to be winter in my area and too cold to ride on 2 wheels.  Brought the bike inside the house for some winter maintenance.  It's so much nicer than working on the cold concrete garage floor.  Old timing belt off and new belts put back on. Ordered new front brake pads for it today so those will be on next weeks list once they arrive.

M47 is fine for all I know. Gearbox is fine too.

N47, you're gonna be worried about timing chain guides IIRC.

Swirl flaps (or might be called Vortex dampers) on the intake .. they are the most common failure for both the 4pot M47 and 6pot M57 IIRC (they break off and fly into the engine)
Since its a BMW .. check for leaking oil anywhere on the engine, rear main seal is known to go on them

then typical Diesel issues of EGR related issues.. as long as the EGR valve aint clogged, its fine.

and any turbo engine related thing ... watch out for dead or dying turbos on them

otherwise it should be fine
Gearboxes are usually the last thing to go wrong on them just the dual mass flywheel on manual gearboxes could become an issue over time

And cracking wiring, I see that ALL the time on BMW's especially older ones.

Ended up getting a video feed of the underside and it was not glorious.. All wheel arch* on the vehicle was rusted and the pan for the oil was.. looked like it had driven 70mp/h on a dump and cracked it. Told me they would fix before i buyed it but this threw me off a bit.. Gonna be a bit more troughout and possibly get a friend to help me check out newer cards too..  Was checking out a 730D Auto where i live and the entire bottom exhaust was missing while the back axles looked like they were about to fall off any moment.

Maybe getting a shit-car or box is gonna be harder than i thought, secret rust creeping in seems to be a major problem on any car.

What it's sitting on?  It's just a cheap carpet runner from the local home store.  Makes it nice that the stands don't scratch up the flooring.

yeah, i think with older cars you need to lower your expectations A LOT or expect to pay big money for a good one unless you are lucky

Rust on arches and even the underside of the whole car is a stupidly common thing especially in the colder areas and i wouldn't worry much about it, not the most difficult of fixes.

cracked oil pan is bad ... that could mean multiple things could be wrong as well ... and personally id try to stay away from that

also imo a shitbox wont ever be perfect, aint that kinda the point of a shitbox? 😅

E91 is the generation right? When i saw the rust i know it wont be easy to fix.. This coming from a guy that owned a volvo 850 from 1996 (2012-2020) and now owns a new volvov v70 d3 from 2016 😛

It looked like it had been crummed/crashed badly and then straigthened out.. Think ill look for something newer than 2010 or 11. I've found some 730D's and a audi 3.0tdi but all the insurance is 200€ a month regardless x'D

edit: Mostly because i want the top-package including the "if motor dies = we replace" note.. I really dont want to go from a tech-guy to having to change an entire engine on a car.. Even if that sounds alot fun haha.
