NumLock21

Nzxt is offering their BLD custom system building service for those who are looking for a new gaming computer. The service lets users set a budget and the games they want to play and the service will configure a system for them. The service does add a $350 fee so that's $350 less out of the total budget.

Places like ncix have just a 50 dollar fee to build the system, but then they don't find the right parts for you. But that's what forums like this are for. Unless it adds some sort of extended warranty and support service it's a rip

$350? No fucking way - maybe an $100 fee, but not $350.

The only direction NZXT should be fucking with this service is right off

NCIX doesn't offer a warranty AFAIK.

$350 is fine as far as I'm concerned, the problem will probably come from part pricing.

Didn't say that they did, which is perfectly fine for only $50. I was implying that at $350 there should be something extra, or it's a rip off.

While I wouldn't use this service personally (I far prefer to build my systems myself), I do agree that it's not an unreasonable fee.

$350 for picking parts and putting it together seems like a lot.. I spent about 400 on my girlfriends system. Granted I didn't need a gpu..  But that system runs games like sims, cs and i would assume lol just fine.

Seems kinda stupid to spend 350 on this service when you can build a system for around 600-650 that runs less demanding games just fine..

Disclaimer: my thoughts are based on the Swedish market prices and the great consumer laws. We have a three year warranty by law on everything (at least tech stuff)

And people think $100-150 from me with a one year warranty is pricey lol. My warranties though aren't me rmaing for you. It's buying a new part and selling the RMA part for cost recovery....

Even in the US most computer parts have at least a two year warranty if not three. However, there's a difference between a warranty on parts vs. a warranty on an entire system. For a non-techy person, or someone who doesn't want to deal with troubleshooting, then a whole-system warranty is far superior.

Obviously, with a $350 fee, it's a pretty bad deal for any cheap systems, but the cheapest budget option is $1500 (although you can still "scroll" up after it has created builds to find a cheaper option), so they also recognize that.

You're also not an established well known company and one year is still less than two.

No AMD GPU or CPU and that is VERY disappointing. the R5 line would be WAY better then the i3 and most i5.

Some will spend the $350 whether you see it's a rip off or not, cause they don't know how to troubleshoot or have time to deal with it.

I paid similar amount to extend my laptop's warranty for 2 years.

To be honest if the service is top notch $350 is worth paying.

When I think of someone who doesn't know how to build a pc, two distinct people come to mind. One is a very sheltered individual whose parents pay for everything so $350 is nothing there.

On the opposite spectrum, maybe someone uneducated with a min wage job, in that case $350 is an entire paycheck and that doesn't even pay for a part.

Not sold on the 2 year warranty being a justification because my PSU alone has a 10 year warranty and ram is typically lifetime.

You have to remember that most people on this forum are cheap bastards or kids with no jobs so $100 is the end of the world.

$350 for someone to do all that work for you, really isn't bad what so ever when you can pay much more by going to a boutique online builder as many do. Just because you don't like it.. doesn't mean the tens of thousands of people that want this are wrong.

As a computer store business owner... don't do that. That's a loss of money.
