Youtube's Unskippable 30-second Ads Are Going Away

Google would go bankrupt. Also, It would suddenly become like 500x more profitable to just watch add all day rather than make youtube videos. 5 cents would be cool though, enough to get a few apps a month for "free."

Yea just have playlists running all night. The money you earn in your Google wallet will pretty much pay for your hydro and internet.

There are still a considerable number of users who use AdBlock or ad blocking tools for the reason I described, it doesn't have to be a majority for it to matter at all. 

 

Maybe you don't know how business works, but even if the number of users is 2%, that is still a significant amount of money YouTube and YouTubers are losing in ad revenue.

As in, oftentimes I don't have the best reception, causing the connection to be slow, and the above happens.

I think you might be special, or you might be getting scammed by your ISP.

Nobody else has an issue of it taking half a minute to load a video, and unskippable ads are so rare that it pretty much doesn't matter since you can just refresh the page.

 

I think this is more of a problem of 1) you having the worst mobile internet speeds in the world and 2) you not being too impatient or lazy to refresh a page.

Please stop being elitist about your mobile connection. LOTS of people worldwide still have issues with terrible cell reception. Is this the fault of their Carrier? Yep. Can the user do anything about it? Generally no.

 

Hell, even in Canada, there are lots of dead zones and areas with crappy cell reception. Especially in the more rural areas.

I understand business more than a bunch of second year business students, and I was a Psychology student at the time. Seriously, an entire class of business students thought that each of the three professors who wrote the textbook gets $50 from each book sold at $160. I said two bucks. Guess who got it right.

 

Even if YouTubers and YouTube themselves are losing in ad revenue, removing ads is not the solution. You're trying to solve a loss of income but cutting off the stream of income itself. The people who use ad-block just to get around ads (not because they have a slow connection), is staggering. Go to any University campus here in Vancouver and you'll see thousands of students with ad block. Is it because they can't afford fast internet? Nope. Not if they can afford Starbucks everyday, a MacBook and an iPhone.

The youtuber itself can choose to only have skippable adds already. if I get an unskippable add, I just dont watch that youtuber.

 

I havent gotten an unskippable add on the videos I regularly watch for a loooong time

Yeah, they really ruin some experiences, which many evaporate cause of it. Looking at certain UIs even it's so unfinished or makes no sense. Some in Gmail some in YT and lately YT notification tab is broken. Sometimes YT opens in modern layout that I guess they're experimenting still.

Forget about Canada, in the heart of the most densely populated city in North America, New York City, I run into bad service zones on Verizon.
