Microsoft to buy AMD?! [updated]

zMeul

Keep in mind that Microsoft can't lean on AMD's side right now. If they f*** over Intel or Nvidia, A LOT of people would move to Linux.

Basic guide to CPU's!

If I said I were 14, you would call me a kid. If I say 70, you’ll entitle me too old. If I say 20 you say I’m inexperienced and if I say 40 than I'm too boring.

pfffff

This could go soo wrong, Samsung would be fine, qualcom would be fine or many others, but Microsoft? seriously thats the worst.I wished google bought them out just not microsoft.

Lots of great stuff could come from out of microsofts huge funds and research, they bought nokia, they bought minecraft for 2bil$ like it was nothing, but if they dont invest in R&D in the new AMD then it sucks it really does.

Even I think that's a bad idea. What would happen to To Surface? they use Intel chips a lot.

Surface is MS's top tier product designed to compete with Apple and Lenovo.  They are not going to swap from Intel unless they have something that performs the same if not better, take over or not.

Sorry but awful would be leaving AMD as is to continue peddling their money away in to a furnace.

Microsoft buying them would be worse. Microsoft hasn't done anything innovative in their entire history. They hit it big by selling IBM on a crappy DOS operating system they didn't even own because Apple's hippy corporate culture was scary to those tight asses. They copied Mac, which was copied from Xerox Alto. It took them until Windows 2000 to have a GUI OS that wasn't a bluescreen fest. Their OSes are so bloated, I remember Alan Kay (the guy who created the GUI OS at Xerox, as well as OOP) comparing Windows to the pyramids, just huge unsophisticated structures built by brute force. They have had so many flops in recent history, e.g. Vista, Zune, those Windows tablets/laptops that nobody bought. Not to mention the worst internet browsers ever made. I would hate to see them buy out a company like AMD that has actually done amazing things before, like their early Athlon series, making the first 64-bit x86 CPUs, Hawaii that was so much better than Kepler for the price, and so on.

Sure, sure. If you don't like Windows, which they are giving to you for free, then don't use it. Microsoft gives 0 fucks about you.

And Microsoft has never done anything amazing? They built Hololens, the built the sophisticated Office, they brought that to all platforms for free. Microsoft created a super fast and stable OS that they have to protect against viruses at their own cost. They've done tons of innovative things since 1975.

Windows 3.1 was made on the back of screwing IBM over-and it was far less stable then IBM's OS/2 (of which later versions were used for years in ATM without a single problem), which was capable of running multiple instances of Windows 3.1 and MS DOs within itself. Though IBM didn't know how to market to consumers back then-and they still don't.

Actually Bill Gates bought qdos and built ms dos from that.  digital research turned down IBM on grounds that they wanted individual royalties and not a lump sum payment.

Their success was being in the right place in the right time. AMD meanwhile has done some pretty amazing things in hardware in the past, and I trust them a lot more to do it again.

As I said it's all about perspective, you clearly hate MS so you will never see the business talent, software design talent, sales skills and Client side adaptation. Let alone any of the things they might have done in the last decade. To you it is just luck.

XBox and XBone use Nvidia GPUs don't they? I don't own any console (except my N64) so I don't know.
