How often do you do your "computer chores"

-cleaning/dusting your pc

Once every 6 months or whenever I need to open the case.

-defraging your hard drive (if you have one)

Scheduled to run by itself.

-doing virus scans (if you don't have complete confidence in your interwebz skillz)

Scheduled to run by itself.

-cleaning out and putting new fluid in your custom loop

I don't have a custom loop

-taking off your key caps and cleaning your keyboard

Haven't done it once in 4 years, I'm careful to not get junk/food in the keyboard, so at worst it's only dust, which can be cleaned off easily.

Cleaning/dusting: I clean out the air filters 1-2 times per month. Open and clean the inside maybe every 3-4 months.

Defrag HDD: Don't have one, only had SSDs in my computer.

Virus scans: AVG, CCleaner, Mwarebytes once a week.

Custom loop: Don't have one.

Keyboard: Dust the top once a week. Never cleaned the keycaps themselves.

Do you do this stuff often/are ocd about it? Are you extremely lazy about it and never do it?

-only if there is a problem

-this is irrelivent since win7 it does it all automaticly

-nope, only if something is acting up

-dont have

-have open key k70...quick black of compressed air and im done...even then its seldomly ever.

-Once a month at the most.
-I should actually do that soon.
-Once every one or two months.
-I have a Hyper 212 EVO.
-I can't really, since my keyboard doesn't roll that way.

I clean my PC of dust when I'm installing something new

I defrag whenever I start to feel that my computer is slow

I repair permissions when my computer starts doing weird things

My computer does virus scans automatically

I clean under my keycaps, almost never...

I clean up my desktop when there is so much stuff I can't see my background anymore

I delete old crap when i run out of space

I backup whenever I need to use my external hard drive

I do disk repair every now and again or when I pull something out without ejecting

I uninstall stuff when it starts annoying me or I start running out of space

I archive old programming projects when I'm sure I'm done with them

That might be it (I have a MacBook Air as well as the PC in my sig in case you were wondering about the permissions repair thing)

  • Every 6 months

I don't have a drive that has files read/written to it frequently

I run malwarebytes if I feel something is acting strange. But I don't have an active AV. I only browse 4 or 5 sites.

I don't have a custom loop.

Every 2 months

Clean - Never, positive pressure baby.
Defrag - SSD no likey, HDD gets reimaged too often for me to care.
Virus Scan - Only if other people use my machine, I don't go to weird places (other than LTT).
Cleaning Custom Loops - NH-D15 master race
Cleaning Keyboard - I don't eat at the computer so, no issue

Cleaning and dusting - At least once a month.

Defragging - Never, though I should.

Virus scans - I have confidence in myself not getting into sticky situations, so never.

Custom loop maintenence - Doesn't apply, and I don't really like WC anyways.

Cleaning keyboard, removing keycaps as well - Not often, usually once a few months when I get some disposable time that I don't want to use on the internet.

I used to do them once every week, but now since I never have a computer in 1 piece for long, never.

5. Once a year, I have non removable keycaps so I have to disassemble my G510 Which is a pain in my A$$, If its bad, Ill do it every 6 months.

1. Once a year if it's lucky, it's a bit of a pain taking it outside.

2. Can't remember the last time it did this, though I rarely delete stuff so my drives aren't very fragmented anyway.

3. Automatic, I should probably take more interest in it, but it not like it finds anything.

4. None of that fancy water cooling stuff going on in my PC.

5. I took all the caps off once and cleaned it, but that aberration apart, I just use a duster and for stubborn in-between key dust a bit of sticky tape wrapped around a bit of cardboard.

In my defence my PC is old and decrepit, I'll take better care of next one.......at first.

-cleaning/dusting your pc

I haven't dusted the PC before, but I clean the fan filters every month or so. I will wipe down some excess dust inside the case when I'm readjusting a rattling hard drive though.

-defraging your hard drive (if you have one)

I think that's was automatic on Windows by default anyway

-doing virus scans (if you don't have complete confidence in your interwebz skillz)

Windows defender does whatever it needs to do and I leave it at that.

-cleaning out and putting new fluid in your custom loop

Woosh goes the air.

-taking off your key caps and cleaning your keyboard

these membrane caps are very hard to remove you see...

My PC could use a good dusting. Waiting for the snow to clear and temperature to go above freezing before I carry it out to the shed though.

I never defrag my SSD because there is no point. Virus scan nightly, my cooler is an AIO so I don't need to clean it out, and in fact can't. Just got a new keyboard.

with an I7 running a virus scan doesnt detract at all from performance, so I run one every day. Why not.

Every now and then I'll run Glary Utiliities' "1-click fix" thing which cleans regsitry, broken shortcuts, deletes temporary files etc. and generally de-clogs the computer. I know this works, because it made a mate's computer (found over 1000 registry issues) go from near-unusable with freezing to near-perfect. So I swear by it.

I'll probably de-dust my computer with an air-can three or four times a year. Had a toshiba hdd, never reformatted and it's over 4 years old. just checked - 2% fragged. So I pretty much never, EVER run a defragment.

I clean out my dust filters every couple weekends, and give the whole pc a good blow out every few months, whenever I notice dust accumulating inside. My antivirus does weekly scans for me, so I don't have to bother with that, and I don't think I have every cleaned out this keyboard (looks down and sees how gross it is. Excuse me while I clean it...oh god so many crumbs...oh fuck what is that?...oh lawd how did so many things get into my keyboard?)

My system seems to never collect dust. Not using any filters. Every time I check, it is as clean as it was when I put it together. I think it helps that 1) it is in a separate room where people don't usually enter 2) it is off of the floor 3) floor is tile.

for everything else besides refilling my loop once a month and for loop I do it twice a year since I change chassis and swap it with some older one I have lying around and it feels like building a new pc without spending a high amount of cash (besides for the distilled water) for barely 2$

I clean my PC and keyboard every month. Other than that, not at all.

I have automatic virus scans, so that doesn't bother me, and I have no watercooling.

I clean dust filters when I feel like it and take off/clean all my keycaps every ~2 months or so. Virus scans? Meh. Water cooling? Only water cooling is an AIO.

-clean my keyboard and mouse/pad everyday.

-vacuum the dust off the dust filters once a week.

-Clean my monitors once in a blue moon

-Vacuum insides of pc in every once a year. Since I use 2 stages of dust filters, one typical holes you'll see with common dust filters and 2rd stage is ultra fine dust filters. Most of the dust that gets through are powdery kind and not those can transform into a dust bunnies.

-defrag only once after I've installed windows 7 and drivers

-Malwarebytes auto scans every weekly
