Hello! I joined a little while ago and have my gaming rig folding for the cause. It's good to see the community coming together like this.

Fair.  It’s more difficult for some people to flip hardware than others though.  Me I basically never flip hardware.  I’ve got boxes and boxes of stuff including one entire system I’ve been meaning to get over to freegeek and give away.  There’s a 7950 in the pile I think.  That thing should be worth dollars still I think.

I'm curious to know some of the nicer stuff you have lying around.  Might be interested in paying shipping, for item, or both if you've got something I can use for literally anything.  Boards included, though AM4 or LGA 2011 limited.

There's one on the local auction site for 70 bucks and no one seems to want it. 2012 hardware...

Flipping isn't hard but you gotta kick your ass a bit to actually do it, and do so before the stuff becomes literally worthless, if you're too lazy to do it it won't be very useful. But if you buy a current piece of hardware at a good price, use it for a couple of months and flip it you can typically even make a bit of cash.

Miserable! I'm not set advanced and just got my first GPU WU since the middle of the night, at least 12 hrs. My stats page looks like a sawblade with all the ups and downs.

I just like freegeek.  It’ll get there eventually.  They also sell higher end used hardware on a website I think.  Good stuff would be high end but older style fans (good bearings but older style blade designs) a couple older GPUs, there’s a full q66xx box in there.  Old but 4 core.  One of the old style hyper212s on it.  I don’t recall what gpu it has in it.  470 maybe.   It’s not great stuff.  I don’t think I’ve bought any new gear outside of my current gpu since 2015

Yeah.  I’m guessing that’s a $50 card, and not valuable at all in the continental US.  Freegeek takes old systems, refurbs then, throws Linux on them, and gives them away to people who just need to get on the internet.  Occasionally they get more powerful stuff which they can sell used to help support themselves.  They also do a lot of electronics recycling.  I used to volunteer there.  When I did anything that was core duo they would turn into a freebie machine and give away.  More powerful stuff often got sold used, less powerful stuff got recycled.  They had whole drums full of weird ads cables and wall warts. Was years ago.  I dunno what their minimums are anymore.  Possible that q66xx would wind up getting recycled now.

Hey! Turns out my GTX 670 wasn't dead after all! Razer cortex was the culprit that was crashing my system

 

Gonna give my whole system full-boar to make up for lost time

So nice to learn about places like that! But at the same time makes you feel like living in the stone age over here in Argentina where places like that one just not exist.

That could be actually a nice idea! If not were for the money needed to start it (and for permissions and so), but maybe in the future? Who knows... economics looks a bit cloudy for the near future.
