Samsung M series? I haven't heard a word of them.

No Key devices for me. Physical keyboards that tiny are impossible to do anything with.

They're not released yet, coming out at MWC.

Have you ever actually used a PKB that small for any amount of time though?

How come people like college students are spending more on their phone than they do a car?

I get people that can afford it, but like everyone gets these super expensive phones.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Kind of flawed though, no? You're looking at pricing of flagship phones. Yes, they're going to be expensive, just like a high end gaming machine is (and no, you can't get one for the price of a phone). If you can't afford flagship phones, there are plenty of lower priced options.

I mean, you're right in the sense that it's a flagship for a reason, but personally I use iOS devices and the rate of iPhone price inflation means my options are limited. Apple simply doesn't have the same budget options that are available as devices running an Android skin. So for me this is more of a personal bias.

most people looking for something cheap spend in the range of 1000-1500 US on a car where I live, and those same people spend that much/more on phones and shit. It makes little sense to me when having a working car around here is pretty much a requirement to stay employed.

Not sure how it is where you live, but here in Sweden it can probably be explained with:
1) Most peoples' cars are more expensive than their phones. Our cars are generally in good shape and fairly new, because we have mandatory checkups every year and if it doesn't pass inspection you are not allowed to drive them. Not sure if other countries has that, but I don't think so.

2) Most decent jobs (which is to say, not burger flipper at McDonald's) gives all employees phones, and they are generally pretty good. Not all companies gives out the latest flagships, but it's usually last years flagship, or the previous one. For example one customer I am usually at are currently giving out iPhone 8 and Galaxy S8 to their employees.

3) I spend way more time on my phone than in my car. I'd even say my phone is more important to both my job, and spare time, than my car.

My point being, most don't have 1500 quid/dollars to spend in one go on a car plus insurance/tax/mot etc etc. ALOT of people can easily afford a 1500 quid/dollar phone on a 40/momth price plan.

I got my S9 last summer for $520 unlocked. I'm sure prices will drop just a couple months after release in order to boost their adoption numbers.

Definitely sounds like a personal problem ;)
Apple has said time and again they don't make budget devices, and that's not their intended market.

This attitude to debt is why people have to work until they're 70. I think it's stupid to pay so much for a phone. One that's less than half the price will be the same, usually with a headphone jack and longer battery life and a good camera.

Being able to pay the monthly payment is not being able to afford it. A lot of the Ferraris and Lambos you see on the road are driven by people who think that monthly payment means they can afford it

That's an F in the profile pic

Uhhh no. Having MASSIVE debt is maybe why you'd have to work till you're 70. Easily paying 40quid a month for 2 year's isn't. Doesn't matter that there are ones half the price with similar specs, if those who make it provide a way to afford it, people will buy. If that was the case everyone and their gran would be driving shitty 1-2 grand cars and there'd be nothing flashier.

And i think your definition of "afford" and alot of others differs majorly. Affording something does not mean being able to outright buy an item. Should people not rent a house because they can't "afford" to outright buy one? No, and applying that logic to everything else that can be had with monthly payment's is daft.

Honestly, Samsung (or any other company) will only charge what people are willing to pay. These days, there is obviously a market for high-end smart phones, and Samsung seems to be milking that trend. Although (I think) many of us are not likely to spend that exorbitant amount on an impractical upgrade, the S10 is priced appropriately for it's intended audience. No amount of new technology in a smart phone would make it worth over $1000 to me... but I guess there must be certain demographics where that is the case. And, perhaps sadly, it is those customers that Samsung continues to target.

I'm not a "fanboy", but I do like Samsung phones in general, I just wish they would push more for high quality, innovative, mid-range smart phones.

Well maybe worse. Paying 1700 for an XS because can't get an iOS flagship anywhere else, maybe (Not really) OK. But if you're paying 1700 for an Android phone you can get from OnePlus or Poco whatnot for like $500, well you're only fooling yourself

Thankfully you can't actually pay $1,700 for an XS Max... it's still bloody expensive, but not as over the top.

I'd say the beef with die-hard Samsung fans is that they'll rail against iPhone "sheep" while simultaneously devoting themselves to a brand that defines conformity and mass-market consumerism.  It's like declaring that real indie music fans watch American Idol... go, go, status quo!  It's fine to own a Samsung phone, but don't pretend you're enlightened because you bought a Note 9 instead of an iPhone XS -- you still spent $1K on a phone from a major brand.

iPhone XR´s Screen is awful. It is still 1334x750, barely HD, stretched through 6 inches. It is awful, you can see the pixels even from far away.

Different arguments to be had between buying a 1k "phone" and Android vs Apple.
