BTGbullseye reacted to manikyath in Why are almost all the decent cases glass paneled?
    because:

when everyone makes the same thing, people *have* to buy that thing, and then when your marketing department has their heads absolutely shoved so far up their asses they have no understanding of the real world outside sales numbers... they assume that is what people want, so they produce more of the same garbage.

and in a way.. the fact everyone has rainbowpuke garbage creates a form of "FOMO", where people feel like they need rainbowpuke to fit in, and hence the cycle continues.

the market for cases has gotten so bad i've built my own server case for not much more than the budget of a premium case, and it would actually be better than some of those premium cases if i had any intention of doing more than just going with the fastest first idea for every aspect of the case.

All for the LED RGB circus.
I prefer no LED, it's just distracting.

    yes.

it's like companies trying to target only the biggest possible market is a self-fulfilling prophecy that lead us to having essentially no choice in motherboard PCIe layouts either.

Seriously... I don't want RGB, and will turn it off first chance I get. Is glass that much cheaper than metal or something? The only way to get a front USB-C 3.2 port (that means 10GB/s instead of just 5) is to get something with a glass side panel, and there are a grand total of TWO that have USB-C front ports without glass panels.

I feel like swearing heavily right now. It feels like the RGB crazies have ruined things for people that like to have an actually dark room.

BTGbullseye reacted to SolarNova in ELMB (not sync) with HDR
ELMB strobes the backlight which reduce max brightnes, how much depends on the pulse width .but regardless ..HDR requires a high brightness and since most monitors dont get all the bright in regards to HDR ..usually hovering around 500nits at best, activating backlight strobing will cut that significantly.

So yes it most likely immediately disables HDR capability for that very reason.

BTGbullseye reacted to Mellin in The GPU Overclocking Database
When I was getting ready to overclock my old-ish RX 5500 XT, I came here to check what the safe OC settings others got for their cards and found out that the 5500 is nowhere to be seen...
I guess it is a low-spec card from a few generations ago, but still.
So after some overclocking and undervolting of my own, here are my results and setup (with links to the official vendor site links for parts details):

    Non GPU stuff:

GPU: ASRock AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT Challenger D 8G OC (RX5500XT CLD 8GO)

    Memory: 1860MHz
    +20% Power Limit
100% max fan speed (default fan curve with 0RPM mode)

    Temps at ~19C ambient.

OC idle temps: 37C (Hot Spot 39C)
    OC max temps:

    Yes refilling should help
It's quite easy on Eiswolf and Eisbaer (got one of each too), Eiswolf are refillable through the rad and Eisbaer are through the block
But personally I added a VPP pump and a reservoir so that refilling is not an issue anymore

Edit : forget about the eisbaer as you have an Arctic AIO... 🙂

BTGbullseye got a reaction from psybrcat in How does AMD VCE compare to Nvidia's NVENC?
VCE is what was in the Vega and earlier GPUs. VCN is what's in the Navi lineup.

VCE is ok, but worse than NVENC.

    VCN is on-par with NVENC.

NVENC has far more software that supports it directly than VCE/VCN does, but AMD has better driver-included software for using it. OBS supports both.

BTGbullseye reacted to Tegneren in 5700xt reference with aftermarket watercooler, what TIM to use?
Liquid metal may give the best performance, but are a pain in the ass to use and clean up.
If you go for it, be really careful to cover up the components surrounding the GPU chip. You can use some nail polish or something to coat them. Also, its a liquid, so it will spill if you use to much but will not sufficient cover if you use to little.
And also, do NOT use it if the cold plate on the heat sink is aluminium. The Gallium in liquid metal will eat up aluminium and solder in no time (copper or nikkel plating is fine)

Better to get educated at the risk of sounding stupid, than to actually be stupid.
    Yes.
That is not how VRAM works. That's like saying "can I just connect another PC to mine with a USB cable to increase the system RAM". (not being condescending, just giving an example of approximate equivalence)
It's not really implemented in any games, and there is no indication that it ever will be. The process is incredibly inefficient in all but a few non-gaming workloads, (will actually reduce framerates significantly) requires enterprise grade GPU hardware, (like the $2000-$8000 Quadro GPUs) and requires software implementation of the process.
Honestly, I wouldn't go for any GPU with less than 8GB of VRAM anymore, as 8GB cards are currently available in the $150 range when new. (RX 570 8GB, or $200 for similar performance as your GTX 980 on an RX 5500XT)

BTGbullseye reacted to Lurick in GPU
Likely fake actually, most 750 Ti cards don't have VGA ports and while they CAN (and some do) that shroud and style is basically synonymous with scam GPUs, either it comes in yellow or green of some shade, has no markings of any kind, and has a VGA port in the middle. It's probably a 200 or 400 series chip plus the fact that they are selling dozens of them but can't bother to measure them properly and have to call that out just adds to the sketch factor for me, plus they're trying to sell them for that absurd price on top of it all just screams stay away at best.

BTGbullseye reacted to YoungBlade in 2400Mhz RAM with 5600x - should I upgrade RAM?
Fair enough. Congratulations on the 3070!

If you have the cash to spare, that's not a bad reason to upgrade. Also, If you don't already have 32GB, I'd say that's another good reason. A few newer games, like Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition, do get close to using 16GB, so background tasks may become more of a problem going forward.

Basically, if you're goal is to future proof with RAM, I think going up to 32GB+ capacity is just as important.
  17. Agree
BTGbullseye reacted to YoungBlade in Ryzen 5000 on A320
It shouldn't. The reason support for older CPUs needs to be removed is due to limits in the capacity of the BIOS chip. Generally, older or unpopular CPUs are removed. Bristol Ridge fits that description perfectly, but that certainly doesn't apply to the 3000 series.

BTGbullseye reacted to Chris Pratt in 5600x or 5700g?
The 5700G has basically the CPU performance of a 5600X, anyways. For your use case, I'd actually grab a 5800X, which has seen a price reduction in most areas after the launch of Alder Lake. At around $300-350, it's a very good value and will serve you better in the long run than either the 5600X or 5700G. Otherwise, I'd just take the 5600X.
