Why are almost all the decent cases glass paneled?

BTGbullseye

Seriously... I don't want RGB, and will turn it off first chance I get. Is glass that much cheaper than metal or something? The only way to get a front USB-C 3.2 port (that means 10GB/s instead of just 5) is to get something with a glass side panel, and there are a grand total of TWO that have USB-C front ports without glass panels.

I feel like swearing heavily right now. It feels like the RGB crazies have ruined things for people that like to have an actually dark room.

Fractal Design is starting to make cases without glass panels, and including USB-C at the front panel. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/gWFbt6/fractal-design-focus-2-atx-mid-tower-case-fd-c-foc2a-07

Two usb-c ports at the front are hard to come by anyways, so a lot of devices still use regular USB. It would be nice, but it's also something to look forward to in the next few years maybe.

There's loads of cases you can get without glass side panels. I don't think you've really looked into it too heavily.

With how few that DON'T have glass panels being listed on the sites people go to to buy cases, how would anyone ever be able to tell? Also, by that logic, nothing new is ever going to be made.

Yes, and they are either really expensive, not listed on the sites people tend to go to for buying cases, or (as already mentioned) don't have 10GB front USB.

And that's what I'm limited to using... The problem is the lack of choice, not that none exist anywhere.

I'm not asking for dual USB-C, I'm asking for 10GB USB on the front panel. (or even just USB-C in the first place)

You raise a valid concern. Too much focus on blinky looks.

Maybe we should have more choices, but ultimately you only need one case that works. The Fractal Torrent should do all you ever need. Usb-C, and good cooling and solid panel option.

lol huh wtf? do people really say: I want to stare at something  green and square shaped, oh and something round with fast moving fish inside that sounds like a fan, because that's what it is. lol wtf. This is up their with: hey! cables my computer uses those so a bunch of things that look like legos know what to do! but lets hide them! it burns to see red and green things that keeps something loud on a tiny pin cousin artic cold!  And: OMG! 7200rpm record disks in a metal box to store linux iso's ! the shame!

I almost want to say that sounds like something the cringe mfer youtubers winge about. But I've also seen some reviews for cases everywhere: OMG I can see the PSU. Why yes, it's a motor, so your computer has power and you get FiPS.

Fractal Design makes several cases with the USB requirement...which honestly is a little ridiculous. I'm not surprised not many case makers implement it, as the need for it is probably very niche.

Yes. Sure, you might not, but there are loads of people that would love to see the inside of their PCs...that's why RGB, glass case panels, and custom cables exist. That's why people put their PCs on their desks. Just because YOU don't like something, doesn't make it stupid 😉

Huh. Hadn't thought about it that way. lol I thought people put their PC's on their desk to get a monitor stand. or because the varies cables were a bit short.  I'm all for pretty cases. lol, believe me,   a modest amount of what's out their is pretty good, especially compared to the generation that came before it.  The choice of beige, beige, and anime yellow. Wasn't inspiring.  I honestly don't know why it took so long to get black, black, black, or grey. Sometimes white, or dusty was a choice as well.

I felt especially lucky to have doorstop, and blunt weapon. My 2ci could get a blazing 1ghtz clock....in the back of a car, going down hill. Does scsi doing  a gig a minute count?

LoL you know, I have no idea what speed my blue USB port is. Fast enough that putting a few MP3s, or backing up the phone only takes 10 minutes, if that. The next usb ports I get might be even faster.

Apple might make cases with fast USB.  They might come with an entire computer inside as well.

yes.

it's like companies trying to target only the biggest possible market is a self-fulfilling prophecy that lead us to having essentially no choice in motherboard PCIe layouts either.

so why did case makers go full retard, and think that having your computer double as a oven and popcorn maker was good?

Or forget colors outside of black and white exist?

Or that regular hard drives are still the cheapest form of storage?

That also doesn't help explain why front IO connections are stuck in the 1700s with 5 small AF wires to plug in. None of them are following  a list of standards created back in 2002. Dinky petty thinks like the USB  headers being easy to break, or even needing to connect wires to the headers in the first place. back in the day Gateway fixed that by having the wires come from the MOBO to a box IIRC. you'd plug everything into that.

Lian Li thinks no one needs fans.

NZXT can only make fugly ass cubes. Corsair and Cooler Master as far as I can tell are having a contest for worst software, meenwhile their hardware doesn't always play well with others.

when everyone makes the same thing, people *have* to buy that thing, and then when your marketing department has their heads absolutely shoved so far up their asses they have no understanding of the real world outside sales numbers... they assume that is what people want, so they produce more of the same garbage.

and in a way.. the fact everyone has rainbowpuke garbage creates a form of "FOMO", where people feel like they need rainbowpuke to fit in, and hence the cycle continues.

the market for cases has gotten so bad i've built my own server case for not much more than the budget of a premium case, and it would actually be better than some of those premium cases if i had any intention of doing more than just going with the fastest first idea for every aspect of the case.

lol aaaah. that  does help explain why finding my kind of case is being hard. lol, i'm in a camp that thinks pretty or cool lights isn't RGB. And that if a case  I like a ton also has rgb lights on the outside or something, that's cool. If it doesn't, that's also, cool. Like umm DIYPC's Zonnda in black, brown(?) and orange, is pretty cool to look at.  No rgb included.  lol now every review ever  points out it does have problems. Mostly not quite enough space on the sides to get the pannels to stick, and forget having tidy cables. or a Quiet PC, because both the number, and quality of the fans they "sound like an angry banshee, due to the awful thermals" But you are right that most of the cases looking so similar is pretty bad.  The look and internal layout for quite a few cases is pretty bad. GPU's are enormous now. So how do case makers respond: LALALAAAALALALALALALAAA I can't hear you over the sound of the money gun laaalalalalaaaaa! lol At some point lian li and coolermaster did FINALLY start to see some cables and vertical mounts. To work around the chunkus sizing of GPUs. I have no idea if, or when  Either GPU makers get the clue that  90s sized GPUs with equally 90s marketing coming before, having them fit without some  Clipper Case Adustments (aka taking a saw to your case 😞 ) is a bad thing.

Meenwhile lowly me? I just want a case that nice, or even fun to use.
