AngryBeaver got a reaction from Justaphysicsnerd in Is it worth paying the extra money for a Ryzen 5 3600 if you are on a budget ?
Just to chime in... if you can wait another month or so for the AMD 5 series to launch then you could save a bunch of money on the 3 series and/or pick up a better 5 series chip for a tad more. If price drops happen like they have in the past you might even be able to jump to a 3700 or 3800 for around the same price as the 3600 now.

The fact you are having this many questions and issues mean you need to do some good solid research and studying. Rushing forward to create a vpn without understanding everything needed along the way is only asking for an unsecure disaster.

AngryBeaver reacted to Eigenvektor in what are /30 /29....?
As @Skiiwee29 said, they are a shorthand form of the subnet mask. It gets tiresome to write 255.255.255.0 all the time. So instead, you write /24 instead. Why 24?

Your subnet mask is basically a bit-mask. If you were to write 255.255.255.0 in binary, it would be 11111111.11111111.11111111.00000000, that is a total of 24 1s (so /24). While 255.255.255.252 would be 11111111.11111111.11111111.11111100 or 30 1s (so /30).

This is also a hint why /30 results in 4 possible IP addresses: Every bit of your IP address that matches with a "1" in the subnet mask is fixed. Every bit that matches a "0" can be modified. Which means with a subnet mask of /30 you have a total of two bits you can modify. Two bits have four possible values: 00, 01, 10, 11.

    Another example:

    Octet-form:
    192.168.1.1
    255.255.255.0

    Binary-form:
    11000000.10101000.00000001.00000001
    11111111.11111111.11111111.00000000

The subnet mask tells you that the first three octets can't be modified, while the last octet is variable. Your last octet has 8 bits so 2^8 possible values (=255). So your network has a total of 255 possible IP addresses.

Any IP address that does not match the bits of the "fixed part" of your IP address belongs to a different network. So e.g. 192.168.1.25 would be part of your network while 192.168.2.1 would not.

I can count the number of times I got a new CPU and used the same motherboard on one hand, oh and one finger. If I am replacing a CPU and not the motherboard with it then chances are the CPU died and I just want a drop in replacement.

With the way technology is changing upgrading to a new gen cpu should also mean upgrading to a new motherboard else you miss out on some of the improvements and benefits to that new gen cpu. I mean we are talking an extra 80-250 bucks depending on the quality of the board you want. I guess for some people that is a significant investment, but if you are on a budget a 80 dollar motherboard will be plenty... if you are going high end then that should have been part of your planning all along.

I see two things that could be done. Ram to 16gb would be one of them, but another one is getting an SSD. That HDD is going to make everything feel sluggish in comparison. I mean you can get a 500gb ssd for like 45 bucks and a 1tb for less than one hundred now. That will by far give you the most noticeable speed increase.

Most consumer routers are meant to be mostly good out of the box. The only thing I would recommend changing would be the wifi name and password. If you run into issues with something not working then we can troubleshoot from there, but in general you shouldn't need to actually do much.

So trying to explain away someone taking advantage of another (which in this case is also ILLEGAL) as being the victims own fault.... just shows me where you stand on the moral compass meter. This is like blaming the woman for being raped because she decided to wear a dress/skirt.

For this to be a valid transaction that ebay will enforce and that isn't something they would lose in court... then the following text would need to be removed. The paper is not manufacturer by ASUS, does not have an Nvidia chip, does not have 10GB of ram, etc. So including any misleading information like below is meant to deceive and pushes this into scam territory.

AngryBeaver got a reaction from MyName13 in Angry rant: I have been studying IT to get a useless degree
I would say you could start as an infosec analyst without any experience straight out of school... I know because I am constantly training in people JUST like that. Sure they may be titled as a junior or assoc analyst, but they still make good money and in 1-2 years normally are bumped up in title and pay. So an Infosec Analyst is normally reviewing/triaging alerts generated by a SIEM. Heck, with automation and the amount of access you can get to most products via API now a lot of the data collection is done already.

You don't even need a cert most of the time, but the entry level ones are cheap and help give you a leg up on someone else straight from school without one. I look at education and certifications as investing in myself and improving/showing my worth/skill level. You can't really go wrong with any investment you make into your self.

So in this field for example without at least a 2 year degree you would be extremely hard pressed to get started with just a cert. Now if you managed to get some experience the degree might be less relevant, but in general they want 3-5 years of experience, a degree, or a combination of both to = 3-5 years. The truth is though there are a LOT more jobs in this field that people to fill them and the problem isn't getting better. So we often find people have a solid foundation of knowledge and then train them into the field. That foundation of knowledge is mostly around proficiency and understanding of OSes, Knowledge with networking, and overall just having a general understanding of how a machine operates. If you can understand the basics then in most cases you can be trained over time to be a pretty good analyst (if you are motivated).

People are quick to say Education is a scam or not worth it, but I doubt many of them have tried to climb to the higher tiers of those roles. For example I am currently pursuing a PHD to continue improving myself, expand my knowledge, and increase my value to the company.  I mean sure without a degree I could get a few certs and work an entry level position, but I am not going to climb very high off that.

AngryBeaver got a reaction from BTGbullseye in (Tech support) Poor GPU performance
Just for the record the air temp difference between intake and exhaust is only a few C. So the "hot air" he is introducing might raise gpu temps 2c. Radiator placement isn't a major concern as long as you have proper air flow. Ao enough intake/exhaust with a flow path that makes sense.

All of this though is speculation until he records his fps, clocks, temps, voltage, etc while playing. Then just posts us a screenshot of the graph.

There are too many factors at play here and proper information is needed to narrow down potential areas of concern.

If for some reason there is a clearance issue and it won't fit on top then if you have enough tubing just let it sit on your desk! Anything would be better than where it is.

AngryBeaver got a reaction from IAmAFrenchFry in WiFi 6 mesh with WiFi 5 router
So look at it like this. You have a plain router without wifi(you will disable it). Now a lot of these hubs have a main unit which can be used as thr router/firewall/dhcp... if it didn't then these wouldn't be able to operate when plugged in to your modem.

Since you want your main router to handle everything like routing (nat), firewall, and passing out ip addresses (dhcp) you will want to disable those features on the mesh network or you create a network with 2 of everything.

So for example you have 68.8.8 8 as your external ip from your isp, then it hits your router which assigns anything on it an ip of 192.x.x.x... now since you are in double nat the hub system is assigned a 192.x.x.x ip , but then assigns a 10.x.x.x ip to anything connected to it.

This means wired devices cannot communicate with your wireless ones and vice versa.. it also means that anything on wifi that needs an open port will need to negotiate for it twice depending on setup.

Another solution if the above sounds overly complicated is to just buy a 5 or so port gigabit switch.

Then if your hub is like most you will plug in your modems connection (wan)then have an extra port (lan) you could plug the switch in to allow both wired and wireless connections with only the hub acting as firewall, dhcp, etc

It is time for the FCC to step in and get rid of these carrier locked phones in the first place. Which sure as hell doesn't benefit the consumer and makes it possible for stuff like this to happen. Then again the FCC is next to worthless these days as they are in the pocket of the large corps and isps. What good is a consumer protection group that doesn't actually protect us.

If they had a massive exodus to other providers they would quickly change their tune on this. but what we truly need we will never see since these companies pay millions of dollars blocking any competition that might offer us something worthwhile .

The biggest slap in the face is if I OWN the phone and it has all of the functionality, but is being blocked by their crap software/bootloaders... then why do they have the right to tell me what I can and cannot do with said device. With all of these bootloaders it is becoming increasingly hard to root these devices an gain the proper admin access we should enjoy on these from DAY ONE!

From what I can tell that gap between glass and fans is close to a half inch... it is also 360 degree. So while air flow might be a littlr restricted those fans are getting plenty of air.

I have seen MUCH worse designs that were heavily restricted yet the fans still moved enough air. This case isn't bad at all. Anything that is running tempered glass on the front will have a similar issue.

That view 71 in there is ALSO using the same philosophy as well as a few others. So again that doesn't mean it will not get enough air unless the gap is REALLY narrow. This isn't like some where it only can pull a little from the direct top or bottom. It has stand offs it mounts  to that allow air to flow from 360 degrees and it looks to be cloe to a 3/8ths inch of space

AngryBeaver got a reaction from Mateyyy in Is this normal behavior?
It could be a case of rounding too. Since it might start to reduce the boost by one step at 50.5c or something silly like that. Either way we are talking 15mhz which isn't even 1%. So you are losing 1 fps. Honestly being a ftw3 I would grab afterburner or precision (probably precision with an evga card) and have it run the auto-overclock and then save the profile. You should be able to get that card to 2050mhz at a min and another 500+ on the memory. So you would gain much more than you are losing for this and the temps of the card probably would stay largely unchanged on water (in my experience).

AngryBeaver got a reaction from W-L in Will lowering Cpu Overclock lower my gpu temperature ?
So you are running two gpus. When in SLI they have to share the same OC and such. So the way power boost works is part of it is based on temp. So the temp of that last gpu will be hotter due to being down stream. It shouldn't be much hotter, but that is why. As for thr usage that could be many different things, but more than likely is just how SLI is utilizing the card.

It could also just be the block isn't making great contact too so heat isn't transferring as effectively.

as with all major companies this entirely falls on your skill level and the worth of said skills. Someone doing major game engine work is going to have a skill worth more than someone writing a few scripts to do xyz. Comes down to the abundance of labor as well. Everyone is learning how to make simple scripts in college now, but very few have the ability to understand and improve on something more complex like a game engine.
