but Zen 3 is on dead platform

yes, yes am4 wont be compatible with newer gen chips in future

but my arugument is, if you do plan on upgrade on same platform, you made a really bad decision, nomatter which case

low end upgrade to low end

why bother those ipc

high to high end

just becoz you can

low end to high end

you were saving up bla bla bla and you suddenly got rich...so also get youself a new mobo

sorry this looks like a rant, all i wanted to say is get best balanced option you can right now and forget upgradability at all

selling old stuff for new stuff usually isnt end up paying much more than initially planned

Your rant makes no sense at all. So, what's the best choice? Buy nothing?
You can upgrade on the same platform if you need more cores and get substantial gains. It all depends on what you're doing with your PC.

Every Intel CPU/Motherboard is Pretty much A Dead platform upon release, there is no upgradability, and its intentional. Ryzen having almost 4 years of support on a platform is pretty nice, granted its not exactly that and such, but its still a fair bit better then what intel does. Should be interesting to see how this 11th gen goes and if they actually support PCIE 4 out of the box or if you need a new adjusted mobo for most models :P

I can count the number of times I got a new CPU and used the same motherboard on one hand, oh and one finger. If I am replacing a CPU and not the motherboard with it then chances are the CPU died and I just want a drop in replacement.

With the way technology is changing upgrading to a new gen cpu should also mean upgrading to a new motherboard else you miss out on some of the improvements and benefits to that new gen cpu. I mean we are talking an extra 80-250 bucks depending on the quality of the board you want. I guess for some people that is a significant investment, but if you are on a budget a 80 dollar motherboard will be plenty... if you are going high end then that should have been part of your planning all along.

No comprehundo.

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

Either drunk or high on something. Could be even simply off his meds... How many people actually upgrade their CPU anyway? I did that exactly One Time... Usually when Users need a fast Processor, they also need faster and new type memory as well, along with whatever replaced the Buss Slots...

Well it looks like they got me then. I'm going to upgrade from a sabertooth x58 and i7 940 with ddr 3. I should have known better...
