Beskamir reacted to Monkey Dust in MSI confirms focus on GeForce RTX, as MSI Radeon cards are disappearing from stores
AMD cards are solid IMO, their biggest problem is DLSS vs FSR. They are still behind on ray tracing, but have closed the gap. For rasterization performance, AMD hammers the equivalently priced Nvidia card into the ground.

Actually, I think their biggest problem, more so than their upscaling tech, is most gamers don't consider them any more. If the games you play don't have ray tracing, or don't use it well enough to justify turning it on, and will run fine at your monitor's native resolution, you absolutely should consider AMD.

Only skimming the details, the forced arbitration clause only applies to US residents. Which is a lot of people for sure, but people in the rest of world are not affected by this. Even if you are affected in the US, and if you do not opt out, there are still exceptions that may apply.

let me translate that for you:

apple has stopped binding components to devices by serial number, using some false pretense about calibration profiles to avoid facing regulatory backlash for actively blocking any sort of repairability of their devices.

you cannot get legitimate parts to repair apple devices without agreeing to horrendous agreements designed to put repair shops out of business.

on top of that, the stolen phones argument is complete BS here. no one is stealing phones to harvest their battery and display.

Given how badly self checkouts seem to be working in big retail chains, this seems doomed to fail.
Now I don't know if that video is sensationalised or not, but it seems like a huge problem.

It seems all these technologies designed around having less on-site staff, just result in more remote staff having to monitor an increasing number of cameras to avoid theft.  Which completely fails when organised crime gangs decide to attack a store.

These companies seem to have grossly midjudged the value of traditional checkouts in discouraging theft.  There were more eyes on the floor to see what you are doing and you cannot exit quickly as leaving was restricted to being hearded like cattle to the checkouts.

That's one reason I like my Panasonic DECT home phone system. It connects to both my cell phones with Bluetooth, the handsets just use off-the-shelf NiMh AAAs, and the only way it's connecting to the Internet is via a POTS to SIP gateway.

If it can't connect to Home Assistant and work without an Internet connection, I don't want it.

In any case.... I'm looking at that page and only someone completely in the cult of apple would think these talking points are any good arguments in favor of an upgrade.

Beskamir reacted to creat0r in Apple’s new “Why Upgrade - See What You’re Missing” page
    Summary
Apple has created a page on their websites where the user enters their current iPhone model and gets a list of reasons to upgrade to the 15-series. Interestingly, currently only the 11- or 12-series are selectable. The user then picks one of four iPhone 15-series models, and the list is generated with reasons to upgrade. It’s similar to the older “Compare” feature, but this new page only shows the differences.

    My thoughts
Honestly I feel like Apple is getting a bit desperate to get users to buy new products, the title screams of desperation of wanting to give users FOMO. I’m a big tech nerd who usually wants the best, but my iPhone 12 Pro Max from 2020 is still serving me great. I know a lot of users are feeling the same way (maybe not on this forum though): that their smartphone is good enough - so why upgrade? If Apple made product that was innovative and revolutionary for real, then they wouldn’t need a list with all the subtle differences for the average user. My conspiracy theory is that the old “Compare” tool showed how much each “new” generation had in common with the previous generations, and that’s why they want to hide it and only display the differences. Also, wanting to give users FOMO by using their devices that are just a few years old is VERY hypocritical considering all their environmental focus.
