Worlds first Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundbar

jos
yamaha-ysp-5600-soundbar-the-unit.jpg?it
the Yamaha YSP-5600 Digital Sound Projector is a single, solitary soundbar capable of producing room filling, directional audio by bouncing sound beams off the walls and ceiling of your lounge.

This monster of a soundbar packs in a full forty-four discrete speakers and comes with an optional subwoofer too. Though you could also pair an existing sub to the package thanks to a wireless subwoofer kit coming in the box.

the new soundbar is completely MusicCast enabled. Each discrete MusicCast device acts as a wireless repeater, allowing you to extend the range of your multiroom setup throughout your home. It's managed from a simple-looking application, allowing for individual music stages or one flowing soundscape.

Even some of Yamaha's existing products, namely the high-end AV receivers, from the Yamaha RX-V479 and up, will be offered a firmware update to bring them in line with the rest of the new MusicCast range.

I was thinking i need to call an electrician to do wiring for the 4 ATMOS ceiling speakers.. now i am saved..

Ew soundbar. A decent enough replacement for the not terrible speakers that used to come with CRTs, but still. Ew.

It can't, it's shite. It's a good replacement for the awful speakers that come built into modern TVs, but nothing anyone who cares about decent audio should be touching.

You're acting like you're the shit with your 5.1 and that anyone who "cares about good audio" should avoid sound bars.

Ignorant and immature, but yeah that's LTT these days. w/e

It's not a case of me being "the shit", it's a case of soundbars being OK entry level devices for people who only care about hearing sound and don't care about audio quality. Anyone who cares about good audio should indeed steer clear of this rubbish.

how can a soundbar make sounds that are places other than in front of you.

I assume it's the same idea behind throwing your voice? reflecting the sound off of walls to make it appear to come from somewhere else.

A little soundbar would be cool for me since I have limited room on my desk but this is not little and it most certainly will cost like a bajillion bucks.

It can't replace a good 7.1 system, their "sound beams" (if that's even a thing) will most likely be absorbed by the surface they come in contact with.

It's certainly not useless, but this looks like something the people who don't know about audio will buy.

There are relatively cheap sound bars, and my father has one and it's pretty decent. Some come with a subwoofer too!

Gah I'd love something with a sub, but again, no room.

At least I got my TV tuned in to have some low end and less high end. Too bad it isn't my grandma's TV she just got. That thing is fucking amazing when you boost low end and give the upper end a tiny boost. Oh. Mah. LAWD.

Yeah.

There is no way it can be as good as even a "cheap" Dolby Atmos system

The video claims to replicate 7.1.2 dolby atmos system with over 40 drivers.

Its a freaking snake oil marketing.

The only innovation and good point about the device is that it aim the sound up, left, right, down etc. not just straight like other speakers do. But it has no chance against 7.1 soundsystem that produces sound from behind you and around you rather than from the front.

Im not audiophile but even i can see this is a waste of money for people who want good quality experience.

Would love to see your face if Linus and Luke felt the same about this as most of us do.

Also the freaking gimmick costs $1700... Nuff said.

The problem i see with this is how it accounts for varying room shapes and the random ass stuff people have in their rooms.

People are forgetting that the human mind is quite exceptional when it comes to pin-pointing where sounds are coming from. We only have two ears yet I'm able to track sounds behind me and can determine if they are moving further or nearer towards me. Headphones are a reverse example of this as well. The source is only left/right but I can still track and separate sounds. It all comes down to how well Dolby's tech can mimic and then translate sounds in order for our brains to perceive it as natural.
