Cook also says that the Apple Watch will start replacing items in your everyday life. For example, the watch could replace your car keys. It could also replace your credit cards with its Apple Pay integration. The longer the Apple Watch’s lifespan, the more valuable it will become.

if its going to replace my phone car keys and all my other shit its gonna need atleast a month long battery. im not gonna leave EVERYTHING i need behind for an hour or so to charge. no do i feel like taking it off....

 

it should wirelessly charge over a distance. like as long as im within 5 feet of the ''base'' it charges. i'd setup my base at my desk scince i spend a good 40% of my day there.

Hes not wrong about the keys. Many automakers offer phone based methods to unlock your car. Homes can have NFC locked doors. 

 

Maybe maintain some perspective instead of just shitting down his throat just because he's the CEO of Apple.

Car keys, maybe. Wallet, an even bigger maybe. But I'll never trade my large phone, tablet, PC etc for a ~1.5" watch, that's absurd and stupid. And also, that seems to me like keeping too many eggs in one ill-suited iBasket.

Not to mention that I don't WANT to replace my phone with a watch. I want notifications, time (duh) and MAYBE NFC tricks like payments and car unlocking. Anything else is a waste of battery.

HoloLens might replace my TV, though. A resizeable, hypothetically infinite-resolution TV that moves as I do, letting me do other things while I watch Last Week Tonight? Yes please!

I have an iPhone.  And I love it, but no Apple gadget is going to take over absolutely every gadget, especially not a smartwatch.

Now I know moving with technology is awesome but I just sometimes wont move on with it, like paying with my phone, getting smart TV, smart fridge, replacing my keys, I just won't move on, I will still keep using my gadgets and security security.

Ok Apple I totally will believe this...NOT! I can't trust or believe a company when my iphone 5c came with a screen that was popping put or how it freezes and gets really hot then resets. Or how about my Macbook Pro being stupid slow after OSX update, OR maybe my sisters macbook air crashing randomly 2 months after purchase and the battery needed to be serviced. They are all talk and aluminium and pieces of garbage inside.

you really think so?  I believe it can also be entirely true that if Steve jobs had of maintained the same trajectory for the company they might not even be making watches let alone have their latest phone recapture the market.

Who knows, but the current Apple is trumping all what they stood for in the past. But oh well, it's only logical, people want bigger phones. Step 1: Increase screen size. Step 2: Profit.

But this idea of integration is just not serious. Who wants a wallet, smartwatch, car key and many other things in a device that needs to charge once a day and risk having it hacked/stolen?

My car keys battery lasts 2 years easy, my wallet with cash,cards, ID etc. does not need to be on/charged, the smartwatch market is still small due to their 1 day battery and not much usefulness, so this won't be happening any time soon.

And the Apple electric car? I can't wait for a electric car with proprietary ports, expensive as hell components/parts with locked down software. Gotta love it. But we will have to wait and see.

I'm sure quite a few people will buy to show it off as a status symbol. :)

Its not going to replace every gadget but I can see if the support and development is there, replacing a number of small important everyday items.

I understand the fear of having all your eggs in one basket so to speak, I am old school, it took me a long time to trust the net enough to sign up for internet banking, use ebay and I have only just started giving companies like MS and Apple personal details in order to have app accounts and link my CC.  The future of not just financial security but social security and personal security tied up in internet connected things is scary.  But we must move with the times.  Companies like MS and Apple (and even Google to fair degree) understand that they are only going to maintain a workable consumer base if they maintain our privacy and security.  The first company to drop the ball and not make amends for it will lose. 

 

So while I agree, I am also optimistic about it.

I do agree about it, but I still don't put all my eggs in one basket.

They are murdering each other for users.

Google releases Windows 8 security holes and makes them public even though they get patched on Tuesday, they just couldn't wait and had to get publicity for it. (News from a month ago)

Google doesn't fix Android security hole that affects Android 4.2 and older phones.

Apple cloud gets hacked.

Apple Siri collects user data. News from a few days ago. (Well, duh, it has to in order to work and improve).

Sony gets hacked several times, from PS department to Movie department.

And so on and so forth... They all get accused of bribing, collecting data and so on. And each time personal e-mails, data, bank account info gets taken hostage.

Now how are we supposed to fully trust any of them? Especially with such sensitive data?
