Blizzard forces 200MB of bloatware to start-up games.

LOST TALE

Replacing the 4MB styled launcher who did everything they first claim about the new one

While improving the experience of users who have multiple blizzard games ( not all of them like it, but most do).

It's nothing better to those with only 1 game. I sure do hope this practice doesnt spread much.

Just wait, for steam origin uplay and Bnet enforced withthe only 4 games you have, were still good.

They could of just gave the option to not use it or to use it. EA not giving Mod tools or enabling game features already in the game is not new with almost no effor ton their side is not new.

Games now create 3 folders in average literally, 1 for the game, 1 for a software utlity like rapture 3D, 1 for game save. some use less, some use more.

starcraft 2 uses much more.

And apparently people are accepting more folder cluttering, double the launch time for games and GBs of just launchers. Just wait, for steam origin uplay and Bnet with just 4 games, were still good.

Many are just ignorant that games(depending on your picks) use in average 3 folder locations. With SC2 using maybe even 5 or more

As we announced a little while back, we'll soon be upgrading all StarCraft II launchers to the Battle.net desktop app. Thereafter, every Blizzard game that previously had its own separate launcher will now be launched directly from one place. You can upgrade now if you'd like, but if you haven't when the update hits in a few weeks, here's what you can look forward to.

You can use the app just like the previous StarCraft II launcher, but Battle.net offers some handy additional features and functionality.

Summary: Nothing has changed, except 20 minutes of not being able to play while using 25% of the cpu (????)

So it takes about 20minutes of 25% cpu usage and HDD load saturation to download 200MB of bloatware for a launcher.

Looks like there's no way around it

This is so stupid. Everything is getting bloated, origin used to be 40mb now its 120mb and now this shit just got overboard.

Blizzard has been getting DDOS attacked for several days now. that's why the download is messed up. Also, like Builder said, don't complain about 200MB. That is not even close to being "bloatware". If it was 2GB you would have a point. Blizzard has been using a launcher since day 1 of WoW. They just now use 1 launcher for all their games instead of a different launcher for each one.

Even 120MB for Origin is not bloatware. Seriously, get a grip.

God forbid a 200MB download that will cripple your Internet and use up so much space on your hard drive.

Seriously mate, it's not a big deal. There's probably a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on that we don't know about.

If 25% of CPU usage is getting you down, it's time to upgrade to a Pentium 4 CPU...

I never said that, you should get schooled. ok, last reply to noobs

No, because it was only for one game. The Battle.net launcher does more than just launch games. Its integrated into a much larger system that includes everything from remote chat to remote auction house management. You clearly don't know how the launcher works, or how complex it is. 200MB is something that no one should be complaining about, especially for something that manages multiple games as well as allows you to interact with those games without even having the game running.

lol, this is nothing, builder has a good example (though 8.1 update 1 reduced it to just under 6GB) also if your worried about the thing running in the background you can always kill the process to be sure

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

i use to have the second best link in the world here, but it died ;_; its a 404 now but it will always be here

"Tech news" it's just you ranting about a small 200MB launcher jesus. Shouldn't this go under PC gaming?

I like the blizzard launcher. For those who have more than one blizzard game it is a nice piece of software.

I remember when Origin was announced, and then I got pissed because I knew that every publisher was going this route.  I hated the thought of having all this bloatware.

And then I realized we are in the 2010's, and I have a system with 32 GB of RAM.  So yea, we are no longer in the era of requiring a boot-disk to free-up that extra tiny bit of RAM for DOOM.

I remember @Slick made a similar comment on the WAN Show, about hating all this "bloat"... something that is actually non-existent.

Hopefuly it still loads in an instant.

Maybe I should do a poll,

-No launchers, direct exe files.

-Single launchers

-Multi-launchers

The fact that it has links that send you into your default web browser.

Yes there is. So you obviously have no clue what the launcher does. The launcher was first launched when Blizzard created their integrated ecosystem. With a person's BattleTag you can chat with them from with in game, across ALL Blizzard games, meaning a person playing WoW can chat with a friend playing SC2, all from the in game chat window. You can also chat with them via the Battle.net laucnher friends list while their are either in game or not in game and use the Battle.net mobile app to do the same thing.

I can be watching Netflix and chat with my friend who is playing WoW or D3 all from the Battle.net launcher. So stop complaining about and commenting on something that you clearly have no idea how it functions.
