Do not buy the iPhone XR..if you are coming from a phone with a higher res screen

Thanks to the 828 by 1792 screen resolution, the iPhone XR can't switch to 1080p at all in the YouTube app. For an 850 eur ($1000 USD), that is just unacceptable. People will buy it however, because it is slightly cheaper than the other two new iPhones and "affordable"..

Meanwhile, I ain't going to buy IPhone XR. I can get a Huawei Mate 10 or Mate 9 unlock on Amazon US for under the price of IPhone XR.

So long as they don't bother to fix this, it makes no difference, but I will say something just in case it's not obvious.  That is entirely a software problem.  Your screen resolution should not dictate in any way what qualities you can pick on Youtube - that comes down only to the internet speed and processing power you have available, and even then, you should be able to pick anything you want... some just won't work.

What a rip off, I buy cheap phones so if I lose one it dont matter one iota. $250 is my max for any phone whether on a 2 year plan, or outright.

326 ppi, same as every non-Plus iphone before the last 8 years.

850€ are alot, but 1150€ are even more. 300€ more, that's +35% higher Price (all with Tax included)

How exactly is 300€ Pricedifference "slightly cheaper"?

For 300€ you can get a perfectly fine decent Android midrange phone with good specs. Even a Pocophone F1 with a snapdragon 845 beast.

 

 

And don't be fooled by the resolution of the Oled models.

Oled = pretty much always Pen-Tile Matrix. 1 Pixel has 2 subpixels instead of 3, this also "reduces" the actual Resolution, because of the missing subpixel.

 

 

Anyone who had no resolution-issues with non-Plus iPhones so far, won't have issues with this one either.

 

 

Here's what will happen: iPhone Xr will most likely sell better than the others, because it will be MUCH more affordable. simply this.

 

Btw: Unboxing Therapy isn't really the best reference out there in the Internet.... But it's no secret about what he said: iPhone Xr is a "budget" device, a cheaper alternative from the "big expensive oled" models. How can anyone be actually surprised about that?

 

This Resolution thing sucks, and yea, i personally would probably just say fuck it, and get the Xs (if i were to buy a new iphone) instead Xr. Because i don't like making compromises.

But for easy >95% of all iPhone users, this will not give any negative impact at all. Most will just not notice it.

The iPhone 7 and 8 line are good for what they are. The iPhone X and the 2018 lineup is where things go downhill for Apple in my opinion. They built an operating system around the home button functionality with the iPhone introduction back in 2007, and ever since, it got better (fingerprint reader introduced in 2013 with the 5s) but up until the iPhone X (regular one from 2017) they thought there method was better with Face ID and swipe gestures... Well, for certain people, they don't care, they just want an iPhone. But for people who know what is good in a phone, the iPhone X and the 2018 iPhone lineup is pretty terrible when compared to the Android phone market... At least for me anyway.

The iPhone XR seems like a good phone to me: 

 

- The A12 is the fastest chip on a phone, ever

- Notch with all of the Face ID sensors and no chin (unlike other Android phones)

- Very good speakers

- Cool colours, not just black, grey or white

- Great battery life

- Great camera 

- iOS has excellent support with fast updates over 4+ years

- Awesome resale value because iPhone

 

IMHO, it’s a better deal than the Google Pixel 3 which costs $800, $50 more than the iPhone XR. 

 

Now, I don’t want to buy the XR for $750. But in 2 years when it’s about half the price used or with a phone contract I’ll snatch one up.

On the pixel 3, you can watch 1080p videos, on the XR, you can't. But if that does not matter to a person, and they are locked into the apple ecosystem, and they can't afford the other 2 models, then go with the iPhone XR..

Just chill dude. iPhones are great. I wish you could use an iPhone 7 for week. It’s not that expensive to find a used iPhone 7 and it’s so much better than any midrange Android phone with a Snapdragon 630 for the same price. It’s so snappy, the haptic engine is better than any Android phone. I love the speakers as well. The 326 ppi isn’t a big deal unless you watch movies on your phone. But watching movies on a tiny screen sucks anyways. 

 

The great thing about used iPhones is that you can buy one, use it for 1 year and sell it for about $100~$150 less than what you paid for. They hold up their value so well. 

 

Further, switching to iOS is so easy because most of the Google apps are available on the App Store. So you don’t have to tinker with the Apple ecosystem. That said, iMessage and FaceTime work really well.

I am just like ehhh...don’t matter. Use the phone, see what it feels like. I usually watch videos in 480p on my phone without knowing it.

i'm just going to wait and see if apple unveils an in display fingerprint reader in their phones, then see what all the options are out on the market.

But he fails to mention the upscaling that's going on. Sure it's 720p but all iPhones have had sub pair resolution for the past years. The main point is people don't care and won't notice. It's not a deal breaker for one's interesting in it. His pixel review is horribly skewed and he barely mentions the god awful notch

Its just consumerism, like anything else, no one needs those phones, they just want them.

I remember them bag phones back in the day, got them from the company, god knows how much those were, sheeeeeeesh. I prefer a palm sized phone I can slip into my jean pocket, or shirt pocket. The iPhone XR is huge at 5.94 x 2.98 x 0.33 in

 

This is what I'd do with my hard earned cash...
