Whats up with all the low end graphics cards on here

am i misreading something or maybe they are better than i think, but it seems like almost everyone on here even the people that are staff or people who have a lot of rep points pointing to that they are heavily in to gaming,. all have cheap ass video cards like 780' 970, 980's like i havent seen a single person with a gtx 106 which i think is better hta a 780. I aslo havent seen a single person on here with a gtx 1080 and only one gtx 1070 other than myself, likw isnt this a serious gamers forum. Like i was expecting everyone to have at least gtx 1060's on average for the minimum and most having gtx 980's gtx 980 ti 's and gtx 1070's being the average with a lot of gtx 1080's and and a far bit of gtx 1080 ti 's. I t must be cause every one is spending ridiuclous amounts on whisper planium rate power supplies lol cause i posted a bit back and the bare minimum people were recommending where like $100 power suppleis that were only 450 watts like every othergaming channel i have seen recommends the BR and BT evga series and cool master stuff but you guys all seem to be into luxury branded power supples haha and it would seem that money is coming from your guys graphics card budget, am i wrong on this or is this forum a little odd with how much crappy grpahics cards peole have for this site being a gamers forum

Because not everyone has an expensive ass rig?

A lot of us have fairly unremarkably standard i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 systems with an RX 580 or a GTX 1060 if they're new, or usually Haswell-era parts and a 970 or R9 390.

Overclocked GTX 780 = GTX 970 = 1060 3GB.

GTX 980 = 1060 6GB.

GTX 980Ti = 1070.

EDIT:

People run older hardware for a few reasons.

I got my 780 for free, what reason do I have to not use it? I get 1060 3GB performance, and it can handle everything I throw at it with no problem.

High rep points do not have any bearing on how into gaming a person is.

Internal organs > high end GPU's I probably don't even need.

I don't have a 1080 Ti because I am not gaming all the time, so it wouldn't be worth it to get one of those.

Rep points or post count has nothing to do with the level of "gamer" one is. A lot of the people with higher post counts don't even frequent the gaming parts of the site. I'm not entirely sure why you'd correlate those two things.

The GTX 980 wasn't cheap when it was released, and is still more than capable of 1080p gaming.

This forum is, generally, a younger audience. So, they'll have lower end hardware.

Personally, I don't game enough to need super expensive cutting edge hardware. Gaming is a fun time with friends that I don't see often, and nothing more.

It's not a gaming forum. It's a tech forum.

I don't understand that logic.

It's fun to talk about LTT's Petabyte storage server, but I sure as hell can't afford that.

Again, not everyone has the money or is simply not interested in the latest and the greatest.

I sprung for Ryzen because I wanted to spoil myself and make good use of it, and considering what I usually do (video capture and video editing with a lot of shit in the background), it's a worthwhile chip. Sooner or later I'm getting an RX 580 to fulfill my newer GPU needs.

My 780 was a huge upgrade coming from a GT 540M.

Ability to afford something has no bearing on how knowledgeable a person can be about something. My gaming rig is only a midrange one, designed for 1080p gaming. And yet I have a reputation for knowing quite a bit here.

Long Live Sandy Bridge.

Most of the people running older hardware here are doing it because they either don't need an upgrade or can't afford an upgrade. Other platforms such as X58 are still viable for good performance while keeping a lower budget.

1. This isn't a gaming forum

2. Not everybody has a shit load of money to spend on a PC

3. Older hardware works just as well as new hardware

4. A 750Ti was all I could afford back when I got it, and it still plays all the games I have very nicely.

I mean... You're welcome to pay out the ass for your new card but I'm gonna be very happy with the amazing performance I can get from older cards.

This is the same logic as buying an iPhone X just because it's the most expensive phone Apple makes and is new

That's an F in the profile pic

I suppose I belong in these people: my profile says my reputation-level is "Famous" (whatever that is supposed to mean?) and I do count myself as a gamer, but I find myself playing games for maybe 3-4 hours a week and even that's mostly because my boyfriend drags me into Battlefield 1.

also a lot of you guys are implying that i said all people or most people on here should have gtx 1080ti's I never said that in fact if you actually read the article for those who didnt I said I was expecting a lot of gtx 106's and gtx 107's I dont think thats a weird expectations since putting an extra z$150 compared to some of these crappier cards into a hobby which a lot of people on here i would assume have in the form of tec and gaming is no that unreasonable to think

I game on a 1070. What does it matter what people game on here? I love old hardware. I miss my 1060 3GB even though I use a 1070. The older the hardware, the more you learn from having to tweak so many things.

Latest products wouldn't necessarily mean high end GPUs though.

My home server is worth more than a high end GPU and I'm planning an upgrade to 10Gbps for a portion of my network. I've found that I have little interest in gaming components now days, which is partially why my system has stayed the same for the past couple of years.

We are into quality power supplies.

That usually doesn't come at a very low price, due to supply and demand I had to pay $70 for my CX550M, even though it retails at $50-55.

Some peolpe also need the wattage delivered by higher end units.
