Do you celebrate your birthday?

I personally do not really care about mine. I am a 26 year old college student. I've got exams, rent, bills and all that stuff to worry about on top of trying to get into my medical program (which requires an application on top of an entry level exam before you are even accepted). I stopped celebrating my birthday a long time ago, simply I do not think it is a big deal and i have more important things to worry about. Because of my attitude towards my own birthday I often forget other peoples, even somtimes those older baby boomers birthdays. I do not understand why some people (especially baby boomers) get bent out of shape about when someone forgets their birthday. It is almost like "if you forget the day i was born then you do not care about me". I understand that if someone is important in your life you should acknowledge them and make them feel important but this is ridiculous. Anyone else think the same?

I stopped telling people it was my birthday around 13~ years old. 

 

I don’t really like the attention & I don’t like celebration like graduations. We have a similar mindset for the waste of time. Hanging out with a few friends (1-3) is okay but there comes a point where now it’s a huge party & you can’t properly spend time with everyone. I don’t want people in a way worshipping me because it’s my birthday like a cult. 

 

I also dislike the obligation to get others gifts on their special days.

I don't celebrate my birthday, I don't really like attention, I do attend to some birthday parties but I don't celebrate mine. I only treat myself with something that I really want to buy with my saved money, but I don't want everybody's attention.

What I don't understand is when celebrate birthday and hope for long life, that makes me sad to be honest because clearly my life becomes shorter.

I mean, I don't throw a big party or anything like that but I do get drunk with some friends and generally have a good time on my birthday. Last time we went go-carting. I was super hung over but it worked out great.

I don't celebrate my birthdays; I mourn them. At my advanced age, they are just another reminder of how old I've gotten and how much closer to the grave I am.

 

All seriousness aside, i just ignore them as though they were any other day.

My parents offer to buy me dinner at this pizza place I love, so I guess yea I still kind of do. Otherwise eh, birthdays seem more boring after your 21st.

Only on the good numbers like 10, 13, and 18 for example. I don't like to celebrate my birthday because it's a reminder that I'm one step older and I don't like that thought. Although I do enjoy the company whenever there's a surprise party. :)

I usually work on my birthday as well as all holidays. It's all a waste of time and money.

Because of my past with religion, I don't really celebrate holidays at all. Just not something I've gotten back into the groove of doing, but financially, it's pretty liberating.

I've never really cared when it was my birthday, but my family would take me out to eat on the day when I was a kid, so I liked that aspect. Now that I live on my own I don't really have anyone to celebrate with, but I like it to be a day about me where I just enjoy myself. My 21st birthday is coming up, so I'll probably celebrate that by buying some alcohol or something- whatever you're suppose to do. For my last birthday, I didn't do anything special, it was just a regular day- which is really all I can ask for.

I liked my birthday up until my 16th one. On that one in the morning, no well wishes from my parents, I went to school, on a field trip, came back, on my way home my drunk mom nearly hit me at higher speed with the car on the way to the supermarket, then when I was home she was already back again, and the reason she was speeding was to get a xl muffin which substitutes to a birthday cake. no card, no wishes, nothing. Du to just having moved down, no friends as well. 

 

From that day on I stopped celebrating my birthday. 

 

My wife made that day special again, due to her kind and loving ways... no that shes not longer here, well it's a day as any other again. I ususally take the week off, unplug phone, turn off the door bell and just stay at home, unreachable from the outside.

I stopped caring about birthdays and the various holidays, a bit before entering high school.
I think I was around 11, when I began telling my parents I didn't want anything for my birthday, no parties, no gift, no nothing...
Of course they totally ignored my opinion and still did a god damn party and gave me gifts...
This lasted until I was 15, when my parents finally decided to listen to me after I've been telling them for years that I really didn't want anything, that they stopped.
 

A birthday and holiday like Christmas, to me, are just days like any other days. If I want to eat cake, I'll buy cake any day of the year. If I want to have something, I won't beg to potentially get it, I'll buy it myself.
The fact that we weren't the richest when growing, may have influenced this kind of mindset though. Instead of wasting money on stupid gifts, just spend it where it's actually needed, like food and bills.
