From what I can see, mobile P2000 is GP107, so it's a quadro 1050ti. That puts it in a similar tier as mobile 560x/570.

 

It's not a 560 vs 1060.

According to Nvidia, the p2000 in the 5530 definitely is GP107 with 768 cuda cores (and an unknown clockspeed).

meh for the one I showed it was a $500 difference almost.

And eh the headphones would cool too. Brand new in box, though. You could probably sell those headphones closer to the retail $250. However if I got a job and had that kind of money in a couple weeks and that deal was going on by that time. Then I'd keep them.

15" models in the current form factor just aren't viable imo. There is no surface area available for the cooling solution in these things to handle hex cores and dGPUs. 

 

The 13" models are "fine" (fine meaning they won't thermal shut down) but the 15" models need a redesign. They need to be thicker.

that is actually very interesting, because the desktop P2000 has 1024 cuda cores. I wonder why they are gimping the cuda cores in laptops for Quadro cards when they don't do it with GTX cards.

 

Also these laptops are going to be insanely hot, bigger laptops with much better cooling can barely keep the new 8th gen H CPUs cool enough to not thermal throttle and apple can't even keep the older 4 core HQ CPUs cool enough to not thermal throttle. Now imagine how fast they will thermal throttle with a CPU that has a higher heat density, this also goes for their 13" model. Basically unless they suddenly use liquid metal or have done some serius upgrade to the cooling system, then these laptops won't be able to come close to give you the full performance of the CPUs. These will probably go into the portable stove catagory for me, together with Razer Blades.

 

Also I hope that they have fixed the keyboard, I mean a laptop that cost more than 1000 USD or more and has a keyboard that breaks because of dust is unacceptable and the amount of dust needed isn't even that much. I will say that Apple after a while did the right thing and offered free replacements/repairs of the models affected (basically all models with the butteryfly switch keyboard)

Well they are dealing with a biological and neurological adaptation called "colour constancy".

 

Colour constancy is a feature of the human visual system but its absolutely what you DONT want a display to be doing.

 

If you want accuracy for colour critical work, you need a white point that is fixed at 6500K for D65 or whatever. Heres a list of SPD and CCT for standard illuninants.

So basically what im saying is that if you want accuracy you do the opposite of this. Also, a lot of people have finally woken up to reality and started using low blue light modes.

 

Granted, someone with terrible indoor lighting will probably not realize theyre just frying their retinas more with this "feature" but it would be a double whammy for people with bad LED or CFL lights, plus a screen that dynamically makes the white point more blue to match.

 

Something somewhat similar to this but more useful exists already and my phone has it(but i dont use it) to increase saturation in bright conditions and extend the colour gamut to make it easier to see in bright light.

Not only that (it's actually $3400 PLUS the cost of the 256GB model), but also the 2TB model is $2000 cheaper. Unless someone really needs 4TB of internal storage (and they likely have a great job to go with it), then I can't see anyone paying that for it.

 

As a 2017 MBP user (15), I would strongly recommend anyone considering these to wait until the keyboards are tested to see if they are better than the previous models. It's frustrating to get them repaired and Apple has avoided talking about whether or not V3 is better than V2 in this way.  I flat out would not trust this until someone says otherwise. I've avoided taking my MBP into the Apple store to get it fixed because I know it will leave me without my machine for far too long (and going is a pain for me...).

Prices are very comparable for comparable machines used for comparable tasks. My current Precision 5520 is the Xeon/512/16gb version and was a similar price point when new, though was paid for by work.

 

I don't need tons of storage or ram-- external drives and some Chrome self control solve those problems. That is where you're getting hosed on pricing anyway. However, if you need the 32GB/1TB version for work, that price delta is less than two hours of billable engineer time (vs the Dell), or half a day of delta over the 512/16 models, so it's super easy to justify if there's a need.

 

If all you care about is gaming, then neither of these are for you.

That's an extremely poor comparison using a workstation laptop with a Xeon and Quadro tax on it, a more reasonable comparison would be the XPS 15.

 

15" XPS, 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, i9 is $3050 - and only +$400 to go to a 2TB SSD

Agreed, true tone is bloody awesome, it works fantastic on the iPhone X and whenever I pull out my phone and put it next to any of my colleagues/friends it puts their screens to shame (theirs are usually overly blue during the day and overly yellow during the night).

The reason I used the Precision over the XPS (I didn't use the Xeon config, the CPU is the same chip in both) is because the target market for both computers is working professionals and prosumers needing portability and power. I don't know where you're seeing a comparison to the Xeon. For one thing, the i9 is pricier, for another, the Xeon is only mentioned in that my own laptop has that configuration; however, it's not the comparison model.

 

The compared models have the exact same CPU, the same RAM, the same size HD, and comparable pro-grade GPUs (the MBP's got a "Radeon Pro" GPU to compete with the Quadro). Hence, applicable comparison.

 

Furthermore, AMD advertises the Radeon Pro in the MBP as a Workstation card, supported by their Workstation drivers: https://www.amd.com/en/graphics/workstations-radeon-pro-500

 

Yes, the XPS is cheaper. It is not a mobile workstation nor is it advertised as such. MBP and Precision both are.
