HP's new line of AMD powered Elitebook and Probook

Quote

Like clockwork, HP will be refreshing its lineup of business notebooks just in time for the back-to-school season. Both the mainstream ProBook series and flagship EliteBook series will be entering their respective 4th and 5th generations alongside AMD Ryzen

HP has introduced a new line of AMD power Elitebook and Probook laptops. The Elitebook gets 3 new models,  735 G5, 745 G5, and 755 G5, while the Probook gets a single new model, the 645 G4. All of the Elitebooks uses AMD Ryzen with Radeon VEGA, while the Probook uses AMD Ryzen Pro with Radeon VEGA graphics. All of them supports up to 32GB of DDR4 of user replaceable memory in dual channel mode. For storage it supports both SATA and M.2 including NVMe as well as US Government encryption standard FIPS 140-2. The Elitebooks comes with a 13" for the 735, 14" on the 745, and 15.6" for the 755. For Probook it comes with a 14". All of them has a resolution of 1920x1080, IPS panel, optional touch, and while all of them have a 1920x1080 resolution, the Probook also has a entry level screen at 1366x768. For keyboard they're spill resistant and comes with drain ports. On the connectivity side of things, it comes with gigabit lan, 1x1 or 2x2 wifi with Bluetooth, USB 3.1 including type C, HDMI 2.0, Secure Card, and Intel XMM 7360 LTE module. Price will range from $760 to $1,000+ and will be available at the end of May. With the introduction of a intergrated cellular module like the Intel XMM 7630, it would be interesting to see if other laptop manufactures will soon follow or they will wait until 5G becomes available.

If you have to sound like a parrot, you might as well go for it...

Either way, personal input is still needed. :)

Considering it was a thing on cheap laptops in 2010, definitely. Though for individual screens its fine for old GPU+games.

Glad to see laptop makers hopping on the Ryzen APU bandwagon. I just don't understand why they're more expensive/as expensive than MX 150 laptops. Any thoughts here?

I see no reason to buy the one with the APU over the MX 150 and it's kind of disapointing because I feel like the APU would automatically mean better battery lifes and easier cooling even if it performs a little less than the MX150

Not everyone needs high resolution though.    I would like to know their target audience, it seems to me these resolutions are quite common leading me to think there are plenty of people who want a bit more power but don't want to pay for extra resolution (cad work/engineering maybe?).

HP are finally making decent looking laptops.

At least it appears as though they are no longer making it so you take the keyboard off to access the internals. It's almost like they are making real laptops

lol 1080p is NOT high resolution. It's pretty much the standard for pc and tv screens now. No reason laptops should be gimped by a resolution someone has decided to keep around even though it should have died years ago.

I have 4540s Probook too. I use arch linux on it with i3 gaps on 256 SSD it's much faster then many new laptops with HDDs or even SSDs if they use Shitndows on it :D

My laptop has changable CPU you can put 4 core/8 thread i7 in it but you can do nothing about GPU HD 4000 is limit. I am going to replace it with Lenovo t440s 1080p IPS screen or this probool makes me blind.

I never said 1080 was high resolution, I said not everyone needs high resolution.  This means some people are clearly happy with 768 (or low resolution). Given the standard is 1080 on these  laptops and 768 is an option for entry level, this tells me there is a market for it and some people don't want to pay for 1080.  I would argue price is a reason to keep offering a 768 model.

What about budget gamers? Adding a discrete GPU to a laptop makes them so much more expensive and if I was trying to enjoy my Minecraft, Rocket League etc. on an integrated GPU I'd probably appreciate the better FPS on a lower native resolution. Don't lower resolution screens also lower power draw?

part of it might be economies of scale, but i dont think thats the whole picture, there might be some strings being pulled under the shadows *cough* intel *cough*

Game resolution can be lowered, don't have to run at the native screen size, when the gpu is not able to handle it.

If it makes it so I can afford it, I'm down. Most of the games I'd play on a laptop would be older shit like Baldur's Gate, HS, and etc.

No it doesn't, you just have to know the correct series of resolutions your monitor supports.
