just buy 5 engines for each car and keep on rebuilding them as they die (as long as the block isnt cracked or you didnt throw a rod down you're fine). xD

There's a limit to rebuilding them haha.

 

I kind of want one of those engine coffee tables as a center piece in my /future/ living room. they look so cool lol

Just find a nice V8 or V12 or even V10 block either in a scrapyard or on the internet. I'm doing that for sure.

yeah they are certainly easy to build. Easiest thing is to find an engine with a relatively flat top and just throw some rubber bumpers on top of it and get a nice sheet of glass and put it there.

 

 

But I can't imagine how on earth I would get that into my house xD especially something big like a V10/12

Yet another person on the toyotanation forum has a stalling corolla from topping off the gas tank beyond what the pump stops at.

Dude, i don't understand how a guy buys a V8 for 15 equivalent US bucks. That's pretty mindblowing. You'd be lucky to find an inline 4 for even 300 bucks in America.

Luckily, if my Protege needs another engine, they're under 1000 good thing. But a complete engine runs as high as 900 though.

I'll find a way. By that time someone would (I hope) have invented an alternative to unleaded petrol that just runs in a standard engine with slight modifications. They did it to leaded fuel.

You can run pretty much any normal engine on ethanol with nothing but an ecu tune so you can run on corn instead of oil.

That's why I intend to get a new crate engine. ;) Only problem is that they're quite pricey everywhere I've checked and I want to leave some budget for tools.

But the drawback is i can't find a brand new protege engine. every 750 dollar engine is used. but i know these engines are bulletproof, so i guess i can trust them used

I'd probably have no problem trusting it. If it wasn't abused in its time it's probably good.

 

Anyone know where to look for one of those rolling engine jacks you use to put an engine down in a car? Nevermind, Google is awesome.

I'm not buying a used engine, especially something from Roush. First and foremost I want something I know I can get decent gas mileage out of, I know I can do that with a Coyote because I test drove a new Mustang already and know the difference I'd get. Second, it's easy as hell to install, mostly. Third, if something goes wrong I want that to be because of me (because I'd know what I did to cause a problem) and not a previous owner. I've got the budget to spend, so I don't mind too much but I don't feel like throwing a lot at just an engine.

 

And I bet that 4.6L makes more power than a Coyote. Stick axle? Nothx.

@terrytek I can pick up a 1ZZ-FE for my corolla for about $850 here, $1000 for a nice one (low miles)

 

 

Trouble is I don't want a oil burner, so Im forced to go with a 2003-2008 1ZZ-FE instead. But since I have to keep a lot of stuff from my old engine during the swap due to different designs, I would have to pay the core charge and they may not accept the old engine with missing components :/

 

edit: but if I don't throw a rod, I will probably just rebuild (with the oil consumption fix of course). These engines are so simple and can be mostly rebuilt while they are still in the car lol
