Buy some sandpaper, masking tape, then a rattle can the entire car, it'll be cheaper than attempting a paint correction, probably look better, and hey you can pick a new colour! :D 

@TVwazhere have you ever heard of a company called Kaaz? They make diffs too, but they're up around the Quaiffe price range afaik. My friend has a really aggressive one in his 3-series, but then again, he has an LS in it as well :P

That set looks pretty comparable to mine. Still only up to 21mm, but you have a few more deep sockets and combination wrenches. Still not a complete set though.

 

whats the warranty on husky? My biggest pull to craftsman was that if I break anything, I can get it replaced forever.

 

 

edit: oh that husky has extensions too. I’m my experience husky tools have been decent. I don’t know about socket and ratchets specifically. (I work in construction)

I have not. The Mfactory LSD should be here by next Tuesday though. 

 

I'm probably gonna bite and get the bearing/screw sets. Apparently the original screws can stretch (?) and the bearings are deemed basically essential. 

This included instruction manual specifcally states to throw out the old bolts so there must be some merrit to that

It's shit like this that are reason why I'm a novice car tinkerer and should leave transmission jobs to someone who does it for a living :D Fortunately I recognize this before I try to rebuild my trans and then go to turn the car on for the first time and my engine explodes when I let out the clutch because the gears are locked

Oh, I'd love to do a bottom to top rebuild of my engine, but I need to do it with a more experienced mate, the basic principles are there but there's so many little things I just wouldn't consider ?

TL;DW, Dont floor it at 40mph when in 6th gear. More than one ST has been sacrificed to the car gods in this manner

Not just STs, I knew one guy in college who nuked his GTI cuz he decided downshifting wasn't necessary. haha.

So, how does doing that destroy the engine? Does it make the air/fuel ratio too lean?

If I recall correctly from the video, because the engine is so hot and you're injecting a lot of fuel at low RPM's, not all the fuel is burned. The fuel can then get hot enough to ignite while it's trying to compress the next stroke.

I feel like this is mostly an issue for manual trans engines, as automatics should downshift when it sense higher loads.

I would agree. 

 

On a side note, would a DCT ignore your lack of request for a lower gear (assuming manual mode) and downshift anyway, or would it actually do as it's told? I imagine it would depend on the specific transmission. I know most of the "Manual" modes on DCTs will take over if you're an idiot.

normally I don't like this sort of thing.. but I would actually like it in a sense of the engineers knowing what range LSPI is an issue and being sure the engine stays out of that range in a high load scenario if possible.

 

even on manuals they could have a little LSPI light come on when you're in a rev range where it can occur as a reminder "hey you probably don't want to floor it right now". Or since electronic throttles are a thing.. even limit throttle application in that range... which again almost forces you to downshift.

I'm kinda torn. 

 

On one hand I want my car to do what I tell it to do; but on the other I dont want to replace an engine haha. 

 

I would bet that most, have some safeguards in place such as shifting at redline instead of pinning it against the limiter, so I guess they could program in a similar thing for LSPI as well.
