Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Finally got my tax return!! Time to rebuild my engine. I got a deal on $200 block and head, matches my BP6D that is currently already in the car. Absolute steal at $200, normally VVT Miata engines go for about $1000.

First step in my 300hp turbo build! Starting where it matters most in the engine lol, I bought all these goodies with my tax return:

-Supertech 84mm Bore 11:1cr Pistons (Wiseco NPR XX Rings)

-Eagle H-Beam Rods

-ARP Head Studs

-ARP Main Studs

I haven't bought the bearings yet, as I'm going to have the machine shop tell me what bearing sizes I need. Also having the machine shop hot tank, deck, and do any necessary repairs or valve lash adjustment. As for the block: hot tank, deck, and bored to 84mm.

I plan on buying the bearings (which are ACL Race bearings), as well as an OEM set of gaskets here in a week or two. It's nice having a second engine to work on, means I can take my time. Only thing that sucks is the engine in the car still runs like crap lol

I mean my driveway specifically. It’s a little precarious.

isn't it because the speed3 axles and stuff have to handle more power and all?

Not really. Its because the speed 3 is physically wider.

I think quaife made LSDs for my car, but as with anything aftermarket for the early non skyactive 2nd gens aftermarket support is next to nothing today. Speed3 stuff don't work in my car because of the different proportions of the car. I think I remember reading the case is the same size, but axles are different splined and length.

I'm assuming you have a regular 3? Why not just get a Mazdaspeed? They sell pretty cheap nowadays. I had one but I bought it from a dealership, I would suggest trying to get one that isn't modded or wasn't previously modded.

@vetali so idk if you saw but I moved. Decided to leave all the tools at home since my dad owns the toolbox anyway and might use them occasionally.

so in the meantime I’m looking for a portable set to hold me over until I can fork out some dough for a toolbox here and start building another collection.

Any suggestions? Was looking at these. Obviously not looking to spend a ton here (not like i use tools everyday anyway) kinda looking for a high price:performance ratio; figured you know better than me. I know how much you hate harbor fraud lol

hmm i didn't think the speed 3 was physically that much wider than a normal 3, like in pictures it doesn't appear to be much wider, maybe just to fit meatier tires or something.

Not really interested. Have to modify to be remotely reliable. Would rather use that money towards a clean is300.

my biggest gripe with it is that it doesn’t come with extensions, enough box end wrenches, or tall sockets. And the biggest size is 21mm.

I'm going to see if I can fix the paint and clear coat on my Corolla at some point, maybe over spring break. Does anybody know what I could try?

You could try to sand all the clearcoat down to the base and spray on some clear, but honestly this paint looks completely shot.

-snip-

it needs to be repainted for sure.

you could try DIY'ing a spray booth, raiding harbor frieght for budget paint sprayers and air compressors and air driers. That's you're best bet. Just prep the best you can, odds are it'll still come out terribly but way better than it is now. And choose a cheap color. Maybe even like a white because it'll hide a lot of the defects

edit: and don't forget to put a clearcoat

he's down to metal in too many spots. He could try spray painting those parts then putting a clear over everything. but it won't look too great. Though I guess better.. I would def sand every messed up area first

I was actually thinking about repainting it outright, are there any specific primers or clear coats I should use? From the Youtube videos I've watched, most recommend using 2K clear coat, right?

knowing him and his budget, that'll probably be the best he can do. He just needs to try something, even with spray cans before it all turns to rust. if he plans on keeping the car for a bit.

I def wouldn't just clear and call it a day though, I would sand, spray can paint base, then spray can clear over that like you said. that'd be the minimum

I'm honestly not sure, I haven't done this before. I wouldn't know what to get haha. I have a rough idea of equipment but that's it.

Best of luck. I'll be excited to see how it comes out if you go the full DIY "lets paint this car" route

Hello, I'm having an Audi A4 B5 1997 with the ADR engine. Its an automatic car and I had its gearbox replaced few months back. The ATF and filter was also changed. At the moment the car runs ok on flat roads but when climbing hills the car revs upto 4000 rpm to change to the next gear.

I have got myself a VAG KKL cable and a vgate scanner to scan the errors and I'm getting this error code 18020 "engine control module incorrectly coded :1612 static -no". (I have  the pictures)

It has a drive by cable throttle body and I have a doubt that this issue has something to do with the throttle body. I have also got my throttle body aligned but the issue is still same. Is there any fix to this issue or a way to disable throttle detection while climbing hills.

Thanks in advance
