Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Don't you love it when your trying to make a right turn and some doofball who isn't considerate of anyone pulls up on the left side of you and blocks your view completely so you can't go anywhere until he leaves lol

~snip~

I wanted to take a left turn once. When a buss driver sneaked up next to me, blocking all my line of sight coming from the right. The guy started honking at me to go.

One of the few times I wanted to go out of my car to yell at someone. "Want to know why I can't go? THERE'S A FUCKING BUSS BLOCKING MY VIEW OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC"

Or the guy instead of going on the right side to make a right turn stays on the left side so you take the right side. Afterwards that same person inches up so much that It blocks your view and you cant move forward anymore. You eventually make the turn to realize the guy also makes a right turn. -_-

Worse with this street though, since it's only really meant for one line of traffic. You're able to get through there to take a right if someone is there waiting to take a left. But not if you're as large as a buss.

agreed. everyone only has them because cheap and no hassle compared to having two sets.

but honestly where I live all we need is one set of summer tires... not like it snows. sure you'll have less grip when it's <50F outside but it isn't that noticeable

these sumitomo's aren't good in the rain tho... just bought them because cheap... should of went for the summer direzza's lol

I bet they slide around real nice tho huh?

good news and bad news

good news:

my sister is getting married and my parents wanna buy her a car as a wedding gift, so looks like I'll be getting the RSX back!  I'm thinking of turning it into a rallyx car...  (autox version of rally, not a global rallycross 600hp awd monster).

basically get softer springs for the fortune auto coilovers on there, raise it up for ground clearance, and some snow tires on 16" wheels... or something.  how much are real rally tires anyway? and where would I buy them?

It has 10k/14k springs on it now, initial thought was to move the 10k to the rear and get something softer for the front.  but I think the spring is too long..

will also pick up a cheap exhaust for it.  it has a longtube no cat header on it with stock exhaust, everyone is saying its choking like 15-20whp.  I'll need to get a retune for it anyway for max power, I had it tuned for max fuel economy for my sister (was getting like 30-32mpg!)

bad news:

the built NA 2.5 engines don't seem to be performing as promised.  a guy on the east coast dyno'd his and put down 178 whp on a dynojet that supposedly reads 10% too low, so 196ish.  kinda pathetic for a cammed and high compression engine.  I drove the one local one, although they're still tweaking the tune, but its nowhere near the 220-230whp promised.  I mean its really torque in the mid range, but it has no top end.  It doesn't feel any faster than my car from 5500 to redline.  The RSX feels faster, it does a real 200whp and its ~300lb heavier...

So I'm waiting to see what the local Miata will actually do once the tune is 100% complete.  if it doesn't make at least 220whp dynojet I'm not gonna do that swap.  I'm thinking an internally stock 2.5 with a Kraftwerks SC and their lowest boost pulley.  that should easily give me 220-250whp, lots of torque, and relatively low stress on the engine.

2.5 on what car? bc iirc, the miata doesn't have a 2.5l engine, and honda never made a 2.5l inline 4. but i think 196 hp from a 2.5l high compression engine seems somewhat fair.

On my road here, on the turn to get onto a main road, someone has parked several cars, including an SUVS along the road in front of his house, blocking sight to the left. Unfortunately, no laws are being broken.

RallyX sounds fun! I say go for 10k springs and adjustable shocks to get the wheel travel correct for the difference surfaces. More play room.

@warmmilk have t read your text yet (in a bit) but to answer your reply to the tires, yes they do slide around in the wet quite a bit. It's actually bad enough that I don't think I'd let someone else drive the car if it's wet outside though... It's really easy to get sideways

For the Miata, I can pull it out of any 09+ Ford or Mazda that comes with it and it bolts in with all oem parts. Although I'll get engine mounts that lower back to 2.0 height since the 2.5 is a little taller, but that's not a requirement.

200whp for a $5500 engine when a stock 2.5 is 700-100 from junk yards and does 170whp is bad

The car already has fortune auto coilovers. Since I'll have to be buying different springs anyway I'm gonna do some research to see if anyone has rallied an rsx before and see what they ran. Not sure what kinda spread front to rear I should be getting for a rally setup.

Mine isn't too far off that in the wet, but it's more cause of the stiff suspension than tires. Slippery surfaces are handled better with some give in the suspension

Yup totes get notes when tagged. Really handy. Congrates on becoming an inlaw. And getting the RSX back. Maybe I should rallyx the s10 instead of autoxing it so I don't have to lower it. What are real rally tires anyway? Just lower treadwear all terrains?

Look up events first, see if there are enough close to you to justify doing it... but really do what makes you happy

as far as rally tires, idk, I've never driven on rally tires. I'm sure like all race tires they're amazing at what they're meant for. Softer compound all terrain tire makes sense, but they rally tires tend to be very specific to what surface that specific rally will be, so prolly more specialized than a soft all terrain compound. They also have smaller tread blocks than what I see on all terrain tires...

Don't need a 3500 series, but a 2500 express van would be everything I could ask for. Can haul parts around, tow anything I could possibly need, it can hold an engine and tranny no problem, and with the van and a 7.5x16 trailer or an 8x20 or 22 or 24 foot trailer I can do haulaway and move cars around.

they're as perfect as perfect gets for what I need.

Only issue is they're spendy

Why would you want a pedo van? /s Road trips?

Don't need a 3500 series, but a 2500 express van would be everything I could ask for. Can haul parts around, tow anything I could possibly need, it can hold an engine and tranny no problem, and with the van and a 7.5x16 trailer or an 8x20 or 22 or 24 foot trailer I can do haulaway and move cars around.

they're as perfect as perfect gets for what I need.

Only issue is they're spendy

why not go with a ford diesel panel van? probably you can find one for cheaper.

this is probably the only place i'll hang out anymore: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/274320-the-long-awaited-car-thread/
