I just checked to see how the paint on my diff cover was holding up. Still purple.attachicon.gifimage.jpeg

why is it purple?

One of the cool things about the area I live is the high concentration of cars imported from Japan on the road. It's not uncommon to see 2 or 3 RHD cars (Skylines, 180sxs, Silvias, AE-86s, etc) on any given day. Mostly due to the companies like J-Spec auto and Japanese Classics that legally import, inspect, and title them; and all the military members who don't know how to manage their money buying them of course. This twin turbo 300zx is a new import and currently listed for $10,500 for example:

Got me thinking that maybe my next second car could be something like this. Great investment because odds are, unless you crash it, you won't lose any money when you sell it.

I'm running a very simmilar setup. For the price it's amazing. The installation of the cable really depends on how easy it is to remove the radio from the slot. It took me about half an hour to get it done in my Golf and to route the aux cable into the glove box. Look for a detailed installation guide, so you know what tools you need. My Bluetooth adapter sits in the glovebox, as I would like to remove it from time to time. You need to watch out, because all of the Bluetooth receivers I had would shut themselves off when there was no device connected for 15 minutes, so if it's stuck behind the radio, you can't turn it back on again. Try to route the cables to the glovebox or somewhere else accessible and put the bluetooth receiver there.

sigh :/ Well one that doesnt power off every 15 minutes would be nice. Even If I routed it to the glovebox I dont want to have to reach over and turn it on. I just want to start my car and there be bluetooth and my phone instantly connects and starts playing all my music shuffled lol, and then I could just leave the car and it would stop playing.

It's almost like at that point I might as well just go wired.

but it is a 300ZX so anyone who owns it is bound to take care of it..

A typical american, yes. An enthusiast, they will take care of it like a second son.

Classic cars generally don't have emission requirements anyways. A RHD car in the US is much more unique and won't lose it's value. Still a better investment. Swear I've seen more R-32 Skylines here than I did in Japan.

Of course I did see a few..

Considering both companies I listed are in Richmond VA..right coast.

Made it sound like the cars coming from Japan would take the trouble to go all the way from Japan, thru the canal, to Virgina - which is not an efficient way of doing car shipping.

That't not how shipping works.

They would go from japan, to the west coast, on a train or truck, to the east coast. Not on a ship to the east coast 90% of the time. Not all the time which you would be correct, but most of the time.

ok but it's much much much harder to register an imported car in california than it is in the whole rest of the fucking united states.

hmm it just occured to me I have a raspberry pi gathering dust on my desk. Maybe I could use that with a wifi reciever instead of a bluetooth device. that for sure I know will turn on automagically when I turn on my car. Only downside is waiting for it to boot.

edit: hehehe someone basically did all the work for me already: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=50543

Shouldn't take too long though right?

Shouldn't be more than 45 seconds-ish. Which I mean is doable. I always wait for the idle of my car to drop before I leave (which can take a couple minutes if motor is cold) So It shouldn't matter.

hmm this is exciting. I finally found a use for my pi xD

Ships from Eastern Asia still constantly come into the Port of Virginia. Believe it or not, it actually is more efficient to do it that way. Just for curiosity I looked up a route from Norfolk to Osaka.

So here's an interesting question.

What color bushings should I get and will it be overly ugly if the end link bushings are blue and the sway mount bushings are red? The ones I'm looking at are that way.

black

but... polyurathane. The only black ones I have been able to find that are black are sold as a kit, which would be fine if I didn't have a front sway off of a 2wd blazer. I'm pretty sure that the end links are different.

i was just saying black because i could not think of another color that would look good with blue and red
