Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Did you miss this? They confirmed tuesday (today) that they would be exiting LMP1 hence no longer require the technical staff for the program, as much as it sucks. It's not like Nissan is pulling out of the WEC completely - their engines still power the majority of the LMP2 and now LMP3 field.

*SNIP*

Nope I did not miss that post.

I was adding new information to the story which was glazed over in that post. The fact that the entire LMP1 group was unceremoniously canned via email, then locked out of the facility.

Honestly I dont really follow WEC, so their withdrawl from LMP1 does not bother me. However firing an entire project group via email over night is bad form. Very bad from.

It was bound to happen in some form or another. After Cox left, there was a noticeable lack of leadership and it's known that they were scrambling to restructure. As bad as we think doing it via email is (from an external observer POV), the culture shock and public shaming that is due to commence in Japan is undoubtedly going to be waaaay worse. Let us at least keep hoping that NISMO will be able to shift its focus to bringing the GTR up to GTE spec, even though they have shown no interest in paying the AP fees for IMSA.

Interesting how they'll handle the subcontractors they hired post Le Mans though, especially around the ERS.

I applaud Nissan for attempting something bold but when there's a formula that has worked for many years, you don't try and do something ridiculous and expect to win. And in racing, you are expected to win.

Stay classy Nissan...

Nissan Fired Its LMP1 Employees Three Days Before Christmas With An Email

http://blackflag.jalopnik.com/nissan-fired-its-lmp1-employees-three-days-before-chris-1749317387

Dick move. Seriously dick move.

If I worked for Nissan and wasn't part of the LMP1 group I would be pissed off by this behavior.

its the nature of the business working in motorsport...  this is  basically click bait, media blowing something out of proportion.

other thing, anyone that knows their sh*t well enough to be working for an LMP1 team will have no issues finding a new job.  at that level its a pretty tight nit circle.  I wouldn't be surprised is most of those people already had offers from other teams.

edit:

well not the fired by email part, but having a job or not thing.  very volatile and strongly depends on sponsors.

Contractors are super easy.

If they handle their contract guys any way remotely similar to how I handle mine, they are on a pay by task hour basis and signed non-discloses before even getting the managers name.

You can have your opinion on the events of the team but that does not change the ethics of firing a group of people over email while half of them are out for the holidays...

I'm sure this has been asked before but what are you guys' insurance rates?

Mine is about $280 for 6 months of coverage. ~$50 a month.

After another heart attack, I've about had it with this car.

Basically if you hit any standing water, the water hitting the wheel wells makes a horrific sound. Its like you're scraping into something, something locking up. Its awful and scares the SHIT outta me in the night. About enough for me to trade this thing in.

Besides the usual Honda folk that I don't like -- how good is a EP3 Honda Civic Si (2002-05) performance-wise?

Not the best looking car but seems like it would be a good little autocross car for me to learn in (also is a manual) while being economical for everyday and reliable enough for me to do my 200+ miles a week

Has a K20A3 that makes 160hp... Only a 9.5:1 compression ratio though so that makes me think it could be boosted or even have the Pistons changed or something with higher compression for more power. But I don't know much about the K series... Other than the K24 is used in the Ariel atom lol

I know squat about the transmission. Bulletproof as most Honda manual's are?

That and a 5th Gen Honda Prelude would be really good, it was pretty well built and also had the option of the a manual transmission

Along with 200HP and 156Tq

Also had pretty good handling stock, a set of coilovers or sway bars would make it even better. They didn't understeer at all in my personal experience

worse on gas (and likely insurance) and I don't like preludes (sorry) lol. Plus it's less convenient. The civic has more room in the back seats. At least it appears to..

ehh mine would be stock. Just tires, brakes, and suspension. Wouldn't be ricing it at all... I can't stand that.

Just looking at price/performance here... you can pick them up for so cheap. I did want a corolla XRS for a while but I learned the transmissions in those are kind of fragile. plus they are more expensive.

I actually don't like how the car looks im just a hardcore driving machinetm

FWD isn't that bad for autoX. In some ways it can be better. The autoX's we have here are smaller than most and pretty tight, so small FWD cars tend to excel at them.

The EP3 Type R had notoriously amazing handling...

And it is imo one of the best looking Civic's.

wait since when is an outback able to tow a trailer, especially with a car on it? wouldn't it be too much for the engine to carry?

oh wait, nvm it's boosted, so it's got power, but wouldn't it still strain the boxer 4?

it's a 6 cylinder Boxer that is boosted. Makes north of 400 horsepower I believe. Plenty to tow a mini lol
