Tried that once, I ended up procasnating on YouTube and LTT forum instead, the issue is internet/computer addiction overall.

Dedication is key, if you truly want to quit then it'll happen.

It will be difficult at first but it's gonna get easier sooner or later, all the best.

I rarely play video games anymore. Find a hobby that you can work on in the time that you would normally spend playing video games. I might recommend programming. You still get the computer time, and you learn valuable skills and logic. I get a much bigger rush from programming than I ever did from playing video games.

As for whether or not you should "quit" gaming, I mean, are you addicted to it? Do you experience withdrawals when you aren't gaming?

Actually working does take away a lot of your freetime.
How my life was before I quit my job
was sleep to around noon, wake up watch youtube or look up random shit or watch something on netflix/tv, get ready for work, work, come home, spend any bit of time I can with my ldr bf (long distance relationship), stay up until 3am doing what I did before work. Rinse and repeat.

But I should add, I could've had a better schedule it's just that was what I settled with, but it lead me to quitting anyways because I didn't like that.

as someone that has started learning, i'm getting to the point that i am feeling the rush. but reaching that satisfaction takes a while, especially on more complicated problems. at times i even question if it is for me, as i am thinking of getting into software industry (never held a job before as well)

but i will admit, i am gaining some passion. lately i've pretty much only thinking about programming. even so, it is very much outside my comfort zone so it's tough to get into the groove every day.

I haven't been able to make myself game much for years for various reasons, and it seriously has had a  very negative impact on my life. You can't let it consume you, but you need activities like gaming or whatever you want to do to enjoy yourself and reduce stress.

And btw at your age, and a bit older more so, my life was 50% gaming 50% hanging out with friends (which itself was 50% gaming). You're too young to worry about that.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Find a sport that you genuinely enjoy. I thought I hated sports until I started kayaking and that got me out of gaming and getting active. Then I was introduced to cross country skiing and I love it so much I got to provincial championships in my first year. I dont think it helped my computer problem though because all I do is look at skis or ski xD

Well I don't think many people will be able to tell you how to quit gaming however, if you're anything like me, you will eventually burn out and no longer find playing video games fun. I mean whenever I fire up a game now, it feels like a chore to me and I get super bored as quickly as 15 mins.

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

put in so many hours daily that you compleatly burn out and then never go back to the game, thats how i have generally quit games lol

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

#1. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.

Sell your video card. Make some money, and in the current climate, it is quite difficult to obtain a replacement.

Then again, I was just playing Fable TLC for about an hour on my Intel Atom pc, soo... *shrugs*

Uninstall all video drivers?

If you've got a good eye for the basics of a language down, I would say that it's time to start widening your scope and look at some of the more academic topics like boolean algebra, set theory, discrete mathematics...

That's were you learn alot of the "hard" stuff that you see going on when you look up different algorithms (things like, because we know x and y, then we know z). I would recommend a textbook called "Discrete Mathematics and it's applications". It's a little pricey if you go for new instead of used, but it's well worth the investment.

any resources that can ease me into those topics. i'm not particularly great at math but algorithms are pretty interesting

If you can handle algebra, that book will be ok. There is nothing more advanced than algebra, that the book doesn't teach you itself (and teach you easily and well).

eh i remember when i was 13, i played till late night myself, you can say i'm addicted at that age

i'll be 28 this year, and i still play games. the big difference is that i know how to manage my time. i do chores, i pay bills, i go to work, i exercise, and surprise surprise i play games

keyword here is, manage your time, put alarm clock or something so you know its time to stop. another way is to refrain yourself from playing on weekdays. games are only for weekends only. have someone put password or take gpu or cables out of your pc and return it on friday night or something
